Or better still get an original Xbox for a quarter of the price, mod it, stick in XBMC and BAM. the most function non-recording streaming Media Centre solution I've ever seen.

Infact I think i'll stick on a DivX film and play a few rounds of some legal emulators tonight.

It's nice to see someone is coding for us Mac users. We've been left out in the cold by both Microsoft and Sony when it comes to console connectivity.

I agree with Jay that a modded Xbox is a cheaper solution, and if there comes a day when I find myself owning a Xbox 360 that can play all my favorite Xbox 1 titles on Xbox Live, I'll probably do exactly as he suggests.

Never say never... it is actually very possible to spoof MCE capabilities on a non-mce computer.

I am just waiting for the day somebody makes it possible for me to use my G5 with my 360 just as someone would a MCE would...

Just bought it $24.95. Works great. Now I just need to find a way to convert my Mac aac files to a format the 360 understands. Anyone know of a good program that will do this on the mac side? I don't want to convert all of my files. Seems funny that 360 will play all of my ipod aac files, but not from my mac.

I can't wait to try this out. I was wondering how long it would take to get the 360 working with a Mac.

iTunes can batch convert to MP3. at least I'm assuming the 360 can read MP3's. with all this crazy nonsense of silly copy-protection stuff...

Yeah, I know...it reads all of the mp3's fine. My collection is so large 10,000 cds that it would take days to batch convert them all. I was just looking for an easier way.

Fantastic idea - now I can connect my iPod to my Mac again - it's been sitting hooked to the 360 since I got it.

Please clarify whether you mean regular AAC files that you created from CDs or iTunes Store AAC files that have digital rights management attached to them. If you're talking about AAC files that you yourself ripped using iTunes, then the Xbox 360 will definitely recognize them after you download the iPod reader update on Xbox Live. I have been able to play AAC files that were on a jump drive that I just stuck in one of the 360's USB ports. Just need to make sure you download the iPod update from Xbox Live.

Why would anyone bother streaming to a 360 from a Mac? Wouldn't they just use their Mac itself. The 360 isn't needed for viewing music or watching videos. You can just use your Mac itself. This is lameo.

No, not protected aac files- just normal ripped CD's in aac. I do have the ipod update- my ipod aac files read fine. However trying to get the 360 to even see aac files on a Mac, or even my PC does not happen. Maybe your zip drive acts like a removable media source, and that is wht you can play the files.

I do stream to other macs. But if you have the 360 hooked up, why not use it as well. How is that lame?

I downloaded the media server and it installed and runs without a hitch. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to make my 360 find my Mac. Seemingly, the only type of computer the 360 can look for is one running Windows. Any suggestions?

Madonna - Some people don't keep their Mac in the livingroom or have it hooked up to their surround sound systems.

I guess I'm really waiting for someone to come up with a way to stream HD quicktime movies from my Mac to my 360... something that most likely will not happen. Hopefully Apple really is making a video-enabled Airport Express.

In any case, I'm very happy with my 360 so far. An overall great user experience, though it can definitely be improved... and hopefully it will be with some updates to the system. Why we can't currently download items in the background is beyond me.

I've got it (mostly) working thanks to this guide http://www.twonkyvision.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=726 , but the xbox still refuses to see any of my (unprotected) AAC music, even though I have the AAC playback download.

"Why would anyone bother streaming to a 360 from a Mac? Wouldn't they just use their Mac itself."

Several reasons:

1. The Mac might be in another room. Many people have multiple rooms in their house.

2. Streaming the music to the 360 allows people to select music of their own to play during games, and then also have the game automatically pause the music for cutscenes. I can't stand the hip hop tracks in the Need for Speed game, so I play my own music, and the game knows I am doing so.

3. Some people have proper home theater speakers attached to the 360, but not to their Mac.
