Last time I checked, Microsoft had all the consoles they needed for a "successful" launch... but the elusive 360 seems to be collecting dust on Japanese store shelves.

QUOTE skyrous:

Also if sony and microsoft learned from nintendo's mistakes why is the PS3 so hard to program? and why are games for the 360 so expensive? weren't those the 2 really BIG flaws in the N64?

----------

For the last God damned time: game prices are set by publishers, not console or game developers. Publishers think they can get $60 for every next-gen title (PS3 and Revo titles included) made and so far they're right - people pay $60 for Xbox 360 games.

If you're the least bit attentive, you should know that Microsoft Game Studios (a division of Microsoft that publishes games) sells their Xbox 360 titles for $50, just like their Xbox 1 titles.

N64 hardware release dates in 3 key territories around the world.

America: September 29, 1996

Europe: March 1, 1997

Japan: March 23, 1996

Release of GC in the same 3 key territories around the world.

America: November 18, 2001

Europe: May 3, 2002

Japan: September 14, 2001

That looks like over 5 years (just) from the release of the N64 to the GC to me. ( source: http://www.n-sider.com/hardware.php)

People without any (or very few) braincells please take note.

But yes Nintendo's hardware sales have shown decline from one generation to the next. Yet they remain profitable.

http://img199.echo.cx/img199/8640/ningraph2fl.gif

Please note GC sales figures prob. slightly out of date.

Nintendo still uses a bit of censorship and that will always turn some gamers away. I don't think we will ever see a title like Skate..... or......Die...... Die Die Die Die Die!!!!!! Just saying the cool appeal of adding the word die in there will be lost forever. THey don't make bad gamees by any margine and I rather enjoy my GCN but in order for them to make a serious dent they still have to get rid of the kiddy image. 5 year olds are not gonna be buying a revolution or understanding how to play it that well. Not bashing, just making my point. And the only other thing that bothers me is that they fell off the RPG wagon. ToS was fun but they don't get hardly any RPG's compared to sony (aybe b/c some of the content is too mature, maybe not).

Cool, so maybe May of next year. Means in the US and Canada we'll see it by late summer, early fall? That's reasonable, and will likely push Sony to rush the release of the PS3 a few months ahead of schedule.

Should be an interesting series of launches.

I know this is all rumor, but I'm looking forward to having all 3 consoles out, having them all steady, getting past the launch madness and fanboyism to actually see which is the best console with the best games.

According to a post today on Inside Gamer, here: http://playstation2.insidegamer.nl/content.php?id=8995, after babel-fishing:

"According to several sources became in the last expenditure of Japanstalige the illustrated magazine Dengeki claims that the Nintendo Revolution "applied" are. This status meanss that a product in its final finds oneself phase, and that it is ready for mass production.

This interesting (yet most likely also untrue) rumour does recently the rondte, and claims beside that the Revolution already would be, also once more that he would be ready in April/May already in the shops.

This rumour is not probably however where, because against earlier made adressed it goes against. According to a number of nintendo participants the Revolution would come just in second half of 2006 on the market."

This basically means that "several sources" probably anonymous, in the last issue of Dengeki said that the Rev is finalized and ready for mass production. So after all, it's just a rumor and probably a false one at that.

but maybe if the Rev is ready for production, Nintendo can do a worldwide launch in June, July or August without console shortages. The demand for the Rev will be way higher in Japan than demand for the 360 was, so there will be 2 or 3 regions (including Europe) that will sell out, so that means it could take more time to manufacture enough.

I think it's reasonable that the Rev is ready for production and that it will be released early in the second half of 06.

Christopher you DO realize you're wrong right?

According to wikipedia:

The N64 sold 32 Million units.

The Xbox sold 22 million consoles.

The Gamecube sold 18.5 million units.

None of these consoles is a failure.

Also, your memory sucks. The N64 debuted in America September 29, 1996 and the last game released was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 on August 20, 2002.

That's almost 6 years. I DO, however, predict that you will ignore what you've learned here today. That’s sad.

It's just like Joystiq to be sooo pessimistic about Nintendo.

and #15: and yet...Nintendo still continues to make a major profit, more than Microsoft or Playstation off of their gaming markets as #18 says.

Have developers even received Alpha and Beta kits yet??? This sounds fisy to me. Although I have read that the revolution is a souped up Gamecube, so maybe the alph kit is the original gamecube and they will tweak for final hardware later.

15. "12. Pretty Obvious, nintendo's last TWO console f-ups?

Since when was the n64 a failure?"

You DO realize that the lifespan of N64 was way shorter than any other "sucessful" console, right? It lasted about 3 years. As far as I can remember, they stopped developing games for it way before the Cube was released.

That and it's horrible sales... As well as the cubes."

You DO realize that you are wrong? Even assuming you are only counting the time it is supported...the N64 actually lasted at least 4 years given it had at least LoZ:Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, Mario Party and Madden come out in 2000, with the cube out in 2001.

And since when was 32 million units horrible sales? That's 50% more than the X-box.

a surprise launch would be the perfect thing, u morons.

it would completely catch the other companies of guard, and remember the consoles that release earlier gain much more success.

ex: ps2 and 360.

due to this, it will be more successful than anyone would expect.

you morons, remember that nintendo is the only game company that has made profit in the past 10 years.

And they certainly have the potential to pull something off.

the reason nintendo isn't talking about the revolution coming out is because the console is in denial.

'denial'? hold on a moment. wheather or not rev does bad or good nitendo will make millions from their consoles. So there is no denial. when the company has the opporunity to make money it will make it.

You're a moron. Both the N64 and GameCube were great systems(IMHO both the best of their respective generations), and they were the MOST PROFITABLE. How is being the most profitable a failure or a f-up? Stupid.

Apple's iPod Nano and Video both went on sale pretty much right after surprise press conference, and both are outselling Sony's PSP and the Xbox 360. (Apples to oranges, but all higher tech products.) Nintendo won't do it that fast, but there are already plenty of people waiting for Revolutions who would buy out their launch stock on just the current hype.

MS did a decent job this time around. I liked being able to play a 360 at Wal-Mart a month or two before its release. It gave you time to digest the system purchase decision and save a paycheck or two before launch day. Not everyone buys in an instant. I think this also contributed to people being willing to pay higher prices on eBay. You can see it, you can touch it, but you can't have it.

Nintendo has a lot to look forward to this year. A Revolution launch (I am still betting on late October/November) and continuing dominance in the handheld arena. They are really taking it to Sony, especially in Japan (more than 4 to 1 sales advantage!) but also in the US (about 1.2 to 1, not counting the GBA SP sales which double PSP alone, or Micro..!)
