I can confirm the water reflection issues presented in the article. Not only it affects the water but also all reflections and in all hl2 mods. Even garry's mod is presenting this glitch.

I'm using a 6800GT with the 81.98 drivers, that thankfully don't have that horrid "Direct Access feature" that almost borked my CRT...

Part of the problem is the Win64 platform itself is still buggy as hell, so even if Valve did properly code it, the OS would hold back most of the performance. I had to dump Win64, which they were literally giving away with the motherboard I bought, because it was pretty much a piece of crap. We probably won't be enjoying any real 64 bit gaming until Vista hits the market in its completed form.

This makes you wonder what sort of crappy compiler they're using in the first place. The increased size and number of registers should have resulted in signifigantly faster code execution, but only if the compiler could optimize for that integer size, and if it knew not to use depreciated instructions that got dropped off the silicon into emulation in 64bit mode.

And Steam is pushing this out like it's a finished product? The hell?

I too had to dump Win64 XP Pro, too buggy, lots of sotware won't work for it. Too new.
