no surprise KH2 is number 1 in japan, or anything on the DS for that matter. Tetsuya Nomura is as big to me as Kojima, Miyamoto, and Itagaki.

Has any handheld had this many great games out in this short a period of time? The DS has some instant-classics, with Mario Kart, Advance Wars, Castlevania, Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, Sonic, Meteos and Kirby (to name a handful). Coming soon is Mario and Metroid. This is really THE ONE HANDHELD TO RULE THEM ALL!

Of course, the more jaded among us would say that most of those titles were already classics... when they were first released years ago.

True, a couple of them are all-new. And I would never say that sequels and/or ports are *always* a bad thing. But when even the *best* of all the systems out right now is relying so heavily on them, I have to say that not even Nintendo quite has the balance right.

Already classic characters/franchises...yes; already classic GAMES....no. The games on the DS became classics on their own merits. Just because a sequel uses the same characters does not automatically mean that the game will be good. Infact the only port on the DS is Mario 64 which really can't be said for PSP(of which I own both).

If I am reading that right, Mario Kart (which has been out for 2 months?) has sold 50% of its total sales this past week?

#2 Lunar: here's the answer to your question.

Also guys don't forget other great unique games like Meteos, Electroplankton, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Trauma Center.

And don't forget Kirby. It's an older franchise but it's really very unique in the way it's played.

Too bad we can't get an english version of Jump Superstars with online play!

Near 597,628 DSs sold in a week, that is even more than on launch date. It seems the Touch! paradigm Nintendo likes to talk about software can be applied to hardware as well. And PSP had a notable performance, selling 161,332.

It seems Iwata talked too soon. If DS sells 400k on the last week of the year, they would have sold 6m in 12 months.
