Dirge of Cerberus online pricing plan revealed
Dirge of Cerberus is just one of
the many titles spawned from Final Fantasy VII lore, but is purported to feature a pretty interesting multiplayer aspect
to the Vincent-centric action game. Sony has posted the pricing plan to enjoy Dirge of Cerberus online - at
least, for Japanese gamers.Reportedly, the online play requires a hard drive, and will be a monthly fee of 760 yen ($6.47) for one character, with additional characters costing an addition 100 yen ($0.85). While not as costly as, say, World of Warcraft, it is still somewhat of an investment.
Dirge of Cerberus is set for release January 24 in Japan.

guess that's one game I won't be experiencing it's online feature. Don't they get enough with my FFXI membership? Dammit!

And almost as much as Xbox Live. But this is a singular game.... Looks like non-unified online service fails again.
Then again, could it possibly be worth taking the PS2 online for? Nah. The network adapter is good for the hard drive addition...that's it. Of course...that's even questionable...
I'm really looking forward to the game though! FFVII was awesome back in the day. I'd love to see how they "extend" the story. Guess I have to watch Advent Children as well.

Square keeps trying to support that hard drive, despite the fact that Sony decided a while back to discontinue making a gaming console that accepted a hard drive. Plus, if you want to own a PS2 hard drive, you have to buy FFXI. That's convenient.

believe it or not, but the hdd sold pretty well in japan. The few thousands of americans that did buy one (like myself) probably are a big fan of the FF franchise.
I'll be getting the game but I doubt I'll be playing it online.

Not entirely true... In either case... If you know what you're doing you can hook up pretty much any normal IDE HDD to your old "chubby" PS2 and network adaptor. If you own a slimline, there's a small mod you can make that lets you hook up a HDD. You just solder two wires into the board and it lets you plug in an IDE ribbon extension board outside, then you just plug in your IDE drive and set it up the same as if you had a non-FFXI HDD in the chubby PS2.
Most people are too lazy though.

now if theyre actually going to do this star thing, that post (#5) deserves a star...anyone seen any sites that have a step by step of the process for the slimline?
Petey @ Dec 30th 2005 5:36PM
No star for that guy. Even though you can install a standard IDE drive in your PS2 you can't use it for online play.
Levi @ Dec 30th 2005 5:39PM
#5 It's that simple huh? Sorry about the sarcasm, but I'm sure that manny people on this site are not proficient with a sodering gun. People are going to need a lot of practice at sodering simple things before attempting to put a sodering gun to their consoles.

for slimline users there is some software that works on the ps2 that allows the use of a usb hdd. It is called usbextreme. In order to use it with your game you would have to copy the game to the hdd with a regular computer but once that's done just pop in the usb drive and the usbextreme disc and you're set. I heard it even works online b/c the game is basically running normally but in a diffrent spot. Sony doesn't support this though b/c it could easily be used to pirate games onto the usb hdd.
TRUEPATRIOT @ Dec 30th 2005 6:42PM
hilarious that the hdd isnt even being made now and this comes out.i doubt alot of people will actually go out and mod the ps2 just to play one game.i own an ps2 hdd sadly =(

FFXI is not a game, it's a chore..
Dasutin @ Dec 30th 2005 11:41PM
Yeah FFXI is a chore. I'm a big FF fan but Square needs to come out with a FF Online game that I can actually enjoy playing.
