I couldn't find the FLYFAN Xbox had advertised in their mag up here in BC/Canada but after a lot of footwork I found something better. It's a 5"throw plastic fan with three rubber stators[green color]and is made by NEXXTECH and is called USB desk fan.It blows very strongly [nicely concentrated-not dissipated] and can be directed into the intake port[the bottom or long screen side of the 360] After fiddling around with it I found it seems to achieve max. eff. @dead centre 2-3in.away pitch down about 2 degrees or so.It does seem to make a difference. Can be found at THE SOURCE/CIRCUIT CITY[the old RADIO SHACK]It's $20-25 or so. Give it a try!

Will this work for the 360 while sitting sideways as well as upright?

Sorry,I guess I wasn't clear as to juxtapostion of items. The 360 faces flat [horizontal]and the fan sits on the right side blowing into the console [on the long screen end [now side if its laying flat]. I also have the 360 sitting about 2-1/2"raised up on a small box to enable air to flow underneath [those rows of small holes underneath are intake holes. Now when you have the whole shebang turned on convective forces will come into play and the whole thing will actually be operating as a small pump or engine and only by you positioning your external fan will you be able to vary the performance of the unit. Remember, the fan inside remains fixed [it acts to draw air as well as expel air. So when you are pushing more air into it you are not only moving air over the hot stuff, but also helping out the main fan big time-it all works in a neatly orchestrated manner! One thing is a must tho, and that is not to constrict any of the vents-keep everything away from it.Think of it as a supercharger or like I call it-a 360 with ram air! The whole exercise is meant to knock er down a couple or three degrees and I think it succeeds quite well! Sorry for rambling on, but I think you can grasp the idea all right.

Consoles don't need liquid cooling and the Xbox 360 doesn't either. For those whining bastards that complain about their Xbox 360 overheating, go take a look in the mirror to see the reason behind the so-called overheating and problems. I've played with NFSMW on the Xbox 360 for hours and hours at a time. All that time, the Xbox 360 power supply was barely warm and the Xbox 360 was definitely not overheating and crashing. I don't go bumping my console to scratch my discs either.

Well said, James!

I've been playing long stints on my 360 since the middle of last month, and it's barely ever warm. The majority of people who have an "overheating" system are the dim-bulbs who are placing it on top of their TV, Audio Receiver, or some other component to their home theater setup, or they're playing it on the carpet, or burying the power supply behind a TV, or they're placing the 360 in an enclosed space.

If you RTFM you will have no problems with overheating. All it takes is a little common sense.

Read the fucking manual. Right inside the manual it says not to cram it away. It says verbatim "Do not store in stereo cabinet". I have mine on my entertainment center but the 360 is on it's own shelf with nothing on top of it and about 6 inches of empty space on each side of it with the powersupply next to it,no problems yet,not even warm. It's a high end gaming machine, would you bury your high end gaming PC or enclose it in a cabinet?

You people who have OCD need to calm yourselves down. You can't get a machine and bury all the wires away and make it look like it's not there,it just doesnt work like that. People will see the powersupply and the wire from it so deal with it or return your 360 to MS every week after your current one keeps melting away and giving you hardware failure.
