Splinter Cell movie not an adaptation
Speaking to The Fairer Sects, Splinter
Cell novel scribe Raymond Benson hinted that the upcoming Splinter Cell movie will have little at all to
do with the video game franchise. While not writing the script himself, he might know a thing or two about the
production. According to Benson, "as far as I know, the screenplay is totally original and not based on any
existing game or my books."Should we worry? Almost every game-to-film adaptation has strayed from the source material, but that has been the case when any story is brought to a new medium - just look to Lord of the Rings or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for examples of books whose story was altered for a featured film. Hollywood has done quite a few spy thrillers in their day, with their fair share of successes and failures. Tom Clancy will most likely have to approve any deviations from the game, as he has done with the novelization of Splinter Cell, so let's hope that Clancy is a staunch critic of the screenplay.

The 2 Splinter Cell novels I have are written by David Michaels, not this Raymond Benson guy... eg:

Never mind, after reading the interview I now know that David Michaels is just a pseudonym.

"altering the story" (ala Lord Of The Rings) is very different from creating something "totally original and not based on any existing game or my books." This is stupid. You've got a great source of story, etc... why waste it for the crappy cliched plot that will ned up being applied to this.
