Mike over at Game Girl Advance took a look at five of the biggest trends in gaming for 2005 and outlined the general direction gaming headed towards throughout last year. At the top of the list is "sex in games", an issue that's been on the sidelines since the creation of the industry. However, the "Hot Coffee" ruckus brought it right to the forefront last year. Politicians and a certain douchebag lawyer protested against "mankind's newest threat", but Mike thinks that as a result of this increased publicity "sex will soon become an effective part of storytelling in mainstream games."
According to Mike, 2005 was also the year that wireless online gaming took off. The inclusion of wifi in the DS and PSP allowed on-the-go gamers to have experiences that were usually reserved for online home consoles and PCs. We touched on the potential for wireless gaming a few months back. Hopefully the positive trends of '05 will continue into '06 with a deluge of brilliant titles and technology for us to play with!
