Every popular multiplayer game has a defining map: from
Halo's Blood Gulch to Quake 3 Arena's Q3DM7 (catchy name, I know) online gamers tend to associate
their experiences from their chosen game with a particular map. Counter-Strike is such a popular game that
it's hard to objectively place one above the other. However, if you base popularity on play time, de_dust is the clear
winner. The creator of this famous map, David Johnston, sat down a while ago to document his own memories from creating the map, as well as its evolution from his original inspirations right up to Valve's inclusion of the map in Counter-Strike: Source. Alongside this he's covered the making of de_dust2 and Siena. Interestingly, David mentions that at any one time de_dust is "is host to around 10,000 players, around 5% of all online gamers". But we can't help asking: is it low in fat?
