Cause you know, drawing on a piece of scotch tape in the center of the screen is too hard. . .

Lol, yeah, I think the previous poster said the incredibly obvious. As if this solution wasn't already incredibly obvious enough.

This fails, terribly.

Exactly. There are a TON of non-permanent ways of putting a crosshair on your monitor.

Even better, get a large clear plastic sheet that and draw the crosshairs on that and tape that to your monitor.

Umm...this has been a known thing for like...3 years. It's funny, Joystiq, but you're like 36 months late.

My bro's been using a non-permanent marker to do this for years.

My bro also has been doing this, even on an LCD monitor! I think he uses white out or something to make the crosshair, and when he's done with the game he just takes a wet rag, washes it off, and no damage...

Actualy, oddly enough, you can undo the effect of a Sharpie, on any surface that is non porious by using an eraser. So it really isn't as perminent as claimed.

dusda-

thank you for informing Joystiq of that fact. 36 months on the nose? wow. they really ought to update the post and give you a star or two for your insight!

(psst- by the way, this was recently on digg, and this article itself is fairly new, not to mention quite amusing. consider such things before you waste valuable first page comment space.)

i'd only heard rumours of such behaviour before and thus was new to me. of course, i'd just do it in dry erase or chocolate.

although to be fair, sharpie will come right off with rubbing alchohol on glass.

I wouldn't be making fun of Joystiq over this. I've been doing this mess, using a celophane overlay as to not ruin the monitor, for 8 years. By that case, you're 60 months behind me, thus proving a point that not everyone in the known universe knows the trick.

I found that a small piece of Blu Tac also works really well, especially since it can be removed so easily. Good for LCD monitors.

Wonder how long it will take some company to start making static cling stickers for this?

well it probably wont work very well with counterstrike because when not zoomed in, it is very inaccurate. but with mid to close range it might work.

not worth it with cs though

I've never had a problem with using a dry erase marker. I had to use them on the monitors in my graphic arts class, seeing as we didn't have any tablets. It works fine, and if you don't use anything abrasive to remove it, then it shouldn't ruin anything.

Tried it years ago; it won't help you in CS. When not zoomed, they seldom hit anywhere near where the crosshair would normally be.

Isopropyl Alcohol will take the sharpie right off. I do it all the time.

I just love the fact that people call things 'hacks' even though they don't even remotely come close the the actual meaning of the word.

Putting a dot on your monitor will not allow you to obtain illegal access to a computer system/data.

Also, this will not give you a 100% performance increase in Counterstrike. Only in combination with a script that zooms in, fires your gun, switches weapons back and forth will this become useful. The script allows you to fire the AWP and return to it without waiting for the bolt action animation to finish, thus allowing you to fire more quickly.

Also, this ONLY applies to the AWP and Scout rifles in the game. And honestly, if you have to resort to using this method, you obviously suck at the game to the point that you can't get a decent headshot with the M4. I think the term for this is 'Lern2Play'.

Lastly, if a server admin catches you using this little trick, you will be kicked from the server and possibly banned (this mainly applies to using the script in conjunction with the crosshair "hack".)

Fools. This *WILL NOT* work with an AWP, but it *WILL* work with a scout, as a scout is still accurate when you're not scoping. I just rip a tiny corner off a piece of paper, lick it, and stick it to my screen, haha. I've been doing it on scoutzknivez maps for years.
