As anyone that's played a first person shooter knows, snipers are crap at short to mid range. The fact that
developers often remove the regular cross hairs when you're not using the scope severely limits the capability of
sniper rifles in close combat situations. You could try to shoot someone from close range with a sniper, but
you'll inevitably end up missing and bunny hopping all over the place, making yourself look like a baboon in the
process. Enter the solution: draw
a crosshair on your monitor.According to the writer of this "hack", you'll be looking at an improvement "on the scale of 1000%" when using this method in close range situations with the sniper rifle. Our own idea goes one up on this suggestion. As a "hardcore" FPS gamer, you'll no doubt be 100% committed to getting the maximum accuracy from your setup. We suggest burning a crosshair directly into your retina using this U.S. Air Force patented laser.
In all seriousness, don't bother ruining your monitor. Just switch to the pistol!

thank you for informing Joystiq of that fact. 36 months on the nose? wow. they really ought to update the post and give you a star or two for your insight!
(psst- by the way, this was recently on digg, and this article itself is fairly new, not to mention quite amusing. consider such things before you waste valuable first page comment space.)
i'd only heard rumours of such behaviour before and thus was new to me. of course, i'd just do it in dry erase or chocolate.
although to be fair, sharpie will come right off with rubbing alchohol on glass.

I wouldn't be making fun of Joystiq over this. I've been doing this mess, using a celophane overlay as to not ruin the monitor, for 8 years. By that case, you're 60 months behind me, thus proving a point that not everyone in the known universe knows the trick.

Putting a dot on your monitor will not allow you to obtain illegal access to a computer system/data.
Also, this will not give you a 100% performance increase in Counterstrike. Only in combination with a script that zooms in, fires your gun, switches weapons back and forth will this become useful. The script allows you to fire the AWP and return to it without waiting for the bolt action animation to finish, thus allowing you to fire more quickly.
Also, this ONLY applies to the AWP and Scout rifles in the game. And honestly, if you have to resort to using this method, you obviously suck at the game to the point that you can't get a decent headshot with the M4. I think the term for this is 'Lern2Play'.
Lastly, if a server admin catches you using this little trick, you will be kicked from the server and possibly banned (this mainly applies to using the script in conjunction with the crosshair "hack".)

use two pieces of thread taped at each end. easily removable and easily adjustable.

Real gamers use the knife to etch the screen!!

Fools. This *WILL NOT* work with an AWP, but it *WILL* work with a scout, as a scout is still accurate when you're not scoping. I just rip a tiny corner off a piece of paper, lick it, and stick it to my screen, haha. I've been doing it on scoutzknivez maps for years.
