At the rate things are going, in another couple weeks, every state in the country will have its own legislation aiming to ban the sale of violent video games to minors. Then there's that pesky federal bill... how to keep track of all the chaos? Easy dear reader, with the first , apparently of many, outings of Joystiq Presents: The Week in Laws Seeking to Ban the Sale of Violent Video Games to Minors; a Guide.
- Last Thursday Indiana State Senator Dennis Kruse (R) filed legislation regulating the sales of video games.
- Not to be outdone by a Republican, the following day Indiana State Senator Vi Simpson (D) announced her intention to propose legislation of her own.
- Yesterday Maryland's Republican Delegate Wade Koch proposed HB 54, to prohibit the "sale or rental of games rated 'Adults Only' (AO) to minors."
- Once again coming in late, Maryland's Democratic Delegate proposed HB 75, promising to be even more ban-y than HB 54; otherwise, the terrorists have won.
- Finally, today, sick with jealousy, Utah's Democratic Representative announced plans to propose legislation in Congress for a federal law, bypassing that whole state thing altogether.
Stay tuned next week for more bipartisan antics, as those crazy congresspersons vie for political attention while displaying a marked ignorance of the very content they seek to prohibit! Yay!
