4,000 PS3 development kits distributed globally

As expected, Sony's keynote at CES was a disappointment for new
PlayStation 3 information. However, there was one little nugget that we missed: Sir Howard Stringer revealed that the
company has shipped around 4,000 PlayStation 3 development kits to date. Not a particularly revealing piece of news,
but it's news none the less.[Thanks, bd]

Wonder if all those 4000 dev kits are the first revision as shown in the photo. Rumours last July were that a new kit would be delivered in December 2005 - wonder if that ever happened?

It seems like the Cell processor or some component wasn't ready by the end of December. I think it still isn't ready, so the Dev kits aren't anywhere near the final build. At least we know that the PS3 exists, in some form anyways.
