CES mop-up: Next-gen in 3D
We
decided to see for ourselves what all the fuss over eMagin's 3DVisors was all about. After all, Nintendo has reportedly purchased a number
of the units for review. It took us only moments to discover that Nintendo's interest in these 3DVisors must simply
be nostalgia for the much-maligned Virtual Boy. And that's expensive nostalgia. If you want the motion-tracking
capabilities of the Z800, it'll set you back $899. The X800, 3D visuals without motion-tracking, still carries a $799
price tag.The real issue is that developers aren't building games specifically for these devices. If Nintendo does decide to explore 3D in the Revolution, then maybe that will change. Until then, next-gen is still best viewed in 2D.

Its killing me that this tech is STILL so prohibitive cost-wise. I'll never forget how awesome the nausea inducing "Dactyl Terror" was, despite the 11 fps you got out of a rather primitive world.
GAH!!

I still expect the "revolution" to be about real 3-D. Come on. It's 2006! Nintendo should step up to the plate and make it happen.
Everybody wants it, whether they know it or not. DO IT! DO IT NOW!
I want that third dimension. Sega made it happen (kinda) with the Master System.
Give me some glimpse of the Holodeck and I'm a Nintendo Fanboy for life.

If Nintendo could come out with this first mainstream then it would make Virtual Boy seem like part of some great master plan they had all along. :-)
