Take-Two acquires Irrational; BioShock coming to 360?
Despite releasing a poor financial
report last week, gaming publisher Take-Two Interactive has nevertheless acquired developer Irrational Games, creators
of the hugely influential and critically acclaimed System Shock 2. Irrational
had previously worked with VU Games and EA. Of note, Take-Two "will publish Irrational's role-playing/first-person shooter BioShock for the PC and as-yet unnamed 'next-gen platforms' in 2007." Gamespot infers, "Given Take-Two's proclivity for porting top-tier PC action games like Prey and Elder Scrolls IV to the Xbox 360, it is almost certain it will be released on Microsoft's new console."
BioShock is Irrational's highly anticipated "spiritual successor" to the System Shock series.

Please, please, PLEASE no dumbing down of Bioshock for the consoles... I really hope they keep the PC version intact, we don't need another co-developpement failure such as Deux Ex : Invisible War.

Please dear god let this make it's way to the revolution.
It's control could make it the natural choice for FPS games on console, and system shock 2 was one of my favorite games ever. (as was the original deus ex).

Damn. Anytime I hear of companies eating each other up it makes me sad. When we lose indepenent companies, we lose choices. What can we do when everything is homogenized?

This is nothing less than the worse news in gaming that I have heard in the past year. There goes another good game-maker down the tubes. Expect any modicum of creativity that Irrational had (and they had it in spades) to be drowned in a sea of profit-seeking effluvium from the shareholders.
