But when...? I need to buy a new Xbox but I can't wait forever. I can only wait until Winning Eleven 9 International comes out in February.

The analysts are right on PS2 but wrong on MS.

MS will not drop price on Xbox1. They aren't even producing any more hardware. MS expected to have enough hardware to get them through this past holiday... they didn't.They're letting inventory at retail run down (and Q4 Xbox shortages were pretty widespread because of this).

Still seems quite pricey for consoles that are dated, even if they were that cheap now.

I agree with intheknow. MS didn't lower the price of the Xbox - they bundled Forza with it and RAISED the price to $179. Of course, if the analysts ever got out into the real world, they'd know that.

There is, however, enough hardware to get through this past holiday - as can be seen at practically any Wal-Mart or Best Buy, where there are still Xbox's on the shelf. The idea is to have enough hardware to cover the gap from end of production of the Xbox until the Xbox 360 production has ramped up and caught up with demand.

Man, I love analysts...where else can you get paid so much for being so wrong so often....Actually, the only Xbox units being sold a major retailers this Christmas season were xboxs bundled with Forza Motorsports that sold at $179, so MS actually raised the price of buying a new Xbox this Christmas. Price drops only happen when there is significant competitive gain to be earned (such as Sony making MS take it the teeth by matching a $100 price drop only six months after the xbox launch). The PS2 going to $129 won't do anything to xbox pricing...they've already stopped making them and MS will milk their distribution out just long enough so it doesn't lose any shelf space at retailers..When the PS3 comes out, I would expect a "*uck Sony" move of $99 or $79 price point for the xbox just to clear out the warehouses. If anything, the PS2 will drop in price in sync with the launch of the PS3, similar to the way the PSone did.

Then don't buy the system from major retailers (where it is bundled with games). The system can be bought alone, you just have to find who is selling like this. The price of the original xbox will drop because at this point all they want to do is continue to build a foundation of gamers that own and enjoy the Microsoft brand.
