For
those tired of countless sequels and iterations of proven game franchises, the following might be of good news. With
EA's Madden being the exception, nearly every trusted game brand will likely
take a sales hit this year at the closing of the current generation. Some suggest the trend could continue into the
next-genertion. From the article: "SIG's Videogame Journal offers an insight into the activities of the big four [game publishers], showing that all will suffer from declining sales with established franchises, as they struggle to meet the shortfall with new, next generation I.P. Although the report covers just EA, Activision, Take-Two and THQ, it's clearly a cross-industry trend that faces all publishers, especially those releasing more than a dozen games this year."
Games like WWE, Medal of Honor, and Tony Hawk are all expected to take a hit. But as long as gamers keep liking and buying the games, sequels will follow.
