hey, I used to do this with the classic Gameboy. My parents repelled the thought of me having a GB for no real reason. It was good though, I finally got one when I was about 8-9ish. practically married Links Awakening.

For me it was the Atari Lynx. Oh how I wanted one. But the pennies never quite added up. Did get a Gameboy in the end, though, and had fun with it.

As for the PSP, well, the kid can have mine. Does anyone actually play it anymore?

It's too bad that the PSP is sort of craptastic.

It's too bad his excitement will be short lived. If they can't afford a PSP, how are they going to afford the games and movies? Oh wait a minute. I mean just movies...there are no games.

A 9 year old? That PSP won't last long in those hands.

Whats wild is that when I was a wee tot, I went that extra length as well, making lifesize color replicas of the Tutankamen and Spiderman boxes, anticipating their imminent arrivals on the Atari 2600

Yeah...

I did the same kind of thing with the 360: making drawings, memorizing specs and launch games. I didn't get one for Xmas, but a couple days later.

I'm still obsessed with it.

P.S. I'm 18.

Sad?

Every kid I asked that I've seen own one of these said, "Because it kewl!" And when I ask them what 'kewl' games they got, and they say, "what games? I just carry it around to be 'kewl'". What the hell is going on that you would be compelled to acquire this monstrosity of technological crap to just be 'kewl'? Ah well, there goes the video game industry to hell in a hand basket if these kids are being taught this. What Nintendo was to us is now Sony to the new gen, sad really.

Yeah, because every 9-year-old needs an unrestricted web browser and wireless access to the internet with no cache or history log so his parents can see what porn he's been viewing on his new "toy."

Times have, indeed, changed. For me, it was the Atari 2600 in 1978 (77?) and I *did* get it for Christmas. There's a pic of me jumping about 7 feet in the air after opening it and being the happiest kid in the world.

The difference, of course, is that porn on the 2600 was something of a let-down.

Poor little fellow...

Anyway...

All I used to think about was a *Gold* Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time game...complete with spelling mistakes on the back cover of the box and hours of perfect gameplay inside...however its not a console so I was able to get one the day it was out without any troubles about my wallet...

The other thing I hung out for was a SNES...Bubsy...anyone ever play that game?

I totally agree with CyberClaws Post No. 13 and Jeremy...

I'll tell you a true and nice story...(since when did those 2 words come together!?)

Ha! I was talking to a young nephew of mine where he told me about his friend who got one a PSP bundle pack (that's all that they sell here) with all useless items for a young kid such as an in

car adapter and headphones...paid AU $399 for it and when I asked what game he got he said he didn't buy one...

My best bet is that his parents didn't want to pay ANOTHER $79 dollars for a game...

They look so awesome but mum says I can't have one...

...They're no fun I said and dropped him off home...

There's now a brand-spanking new Nintendo DS console with Mario Kart DS hidden away in a cupboard somewhere with cheesy birthday wrapping paper on it with a sticker that reads:

Love From Uncle Savage

Show someone you care...get em' into the new DS flair...

*Savage*

you know why No 15?

Because every kids are uncomfortable with their ages. Look around you, Every kids are blood maniacs who loves GTA. Why? Because they want to look older, by playing and doing things made for older audiences. "Look, im stealing a car and ripping heads off!"

Adults, well, most of them anyway, doesnt have this problem. They dont care if someone see them playing games such as Mario, and anything like that, so they can appreciated them .

Every damn kid here have a psp too. The real audience of a product will always be low if it have a "coolness" and popularity.

I tottally agree with #17. A lot of the people that bought the PSP was for the 'coolness' cause they feel insecure. I bought the PSP, games? nothing I couldn't play on a console. Functionality? Great, but after I got mine, I was broke, and stuck with a 16 Meg (I live in China and got mine in Hong Kong, 16 Megs is what you get over here) mem stick duo that could hold a whooping 4 songs! 4!

If the PSP came with a decent sized mem stick and supported a couple more formats, I wouldn't have traded in my PSP to buy about 7 more DS games.

And the web-surfing thing isn't all that great, you've got to be rather close to a hot-spot to do it, why not surf on the computer instead of on your couch in the living room? It's faster more and more efficient.

Not saying the PSP didn't have great games, Lumines was awsome.

Seriously, I hope the kid gets his PSP. And I REALLY hope that some good games come out for it so that he isn't disappointed. That Mega Man game coming up should keep him happy.

Wait so this kid just obsesses over a PSP, then everyone gives him money to buy one? Not like hes a poor kid in Africa who can't get one no matter what, hes a kid like any of us obsessing over a game system like any of us, yet he gets his dream. What about me and my obsessment over 360!? I do have a preorder at EB and I'm first in line now, but I have to pay money for it, and I havn't had a job for a while! A couple weeks ago I was #8, then they got a shipment of 5 so I was third. This weeks shipment was 2.... I was so hyped thinking I would be on this shipment. Thats so buns though, seriously. Just giving this kid a PSP. I have a DS but I would love to have a PSP. I think the DS owns it hands down, but the PSP has its many strong points. If no one wants their's anymore, they can donate it to me! Haha, thanks but I bet no one will. And I offer something back to you people! I have a blog and podcast open to everyone free of charge!

TOO BAD THERE ARE NO BETTER ALTERNATIVES TO A PSP! DS HAS CRAPPY DESIGN, CRAPPY CONTROLS WITH THE SENSITIVITY OF MY HP PHONE TOUCHSCREEN, A USELESS SECONDS SCREEN THAT THEY TRY TO CONNECT AND IS TOO FAR APART, AND ATARI GRAPHICS!!! OH AND TO ALL THOSE WHO SAY IT'S "NINTENDO'S MATURE SYSTEM" (LIKE IT'S MARKETED AS) AND THEN TRY TO USE THE EXCUSE "WELL.. UHH.... IT'S UHHH.... IT'S THE GAMES THAT MATTER ANYWAYS SO.... YEAH... THAT'S ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS!" Yeah... if you want to try to argue that... but it's a shame that all the games are not even as good as Leapster's Multimedia System!!!

"But PSP games are just remakes or ports of games already out!" BUT AT LEAST THE GAMES FOR THE PSP ARE FUN TO PLAY!!!! (oh and we will just look over mario 64 DS) As if for some reasons fun, successful, proven ports automatically lose to original crappy games.

And Just for the record i own a PSP as well as the Mariocart special addition DS, so don't tell me i just haven't played it.

And we can all tell that BROCK IS A REALLY RATIONAL GUY WHO HAS THE PATIENCE TO APPRECIATE GOOD GAMES... Right?

uhhh... Maybe not. I sold my PSP, got an iPod +video, and a DS. I'm very happy with both, and I'm laughing at people on PSP forums griping about the lack of good, original games, and the fact that there are ten times more movies than games for their game console!

Um, there really isn't anything that great to do with a PSP. Ours just sit around and get used for the occassional movie.

One of those PSP owners borrowed his girlfriends DS and has been playing Trauma Center non-stop. He really wants one now. He's 23.

People explode over browsing the internet with the PSP, but it is slow, awkward, and the wireless range sucks.

With Moonshell, the DS gets video and mp3 playback. Other than great graphics that just blur all the time due to the cheap screen (just like the Lynx and the Game Gear), the PSP really doesn't have much else to offer.

Lumines, Mecury, and Burnout are the only games that have been released for the PSP so far that have been worthwhile. As far as the DS goes: Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, Nanostray, Metroid Prime Pinball, Sonic Rush, Trace Memory, Mario Kart and more are all worth playing.

Why do you think the DS outsells the PSP? Price isn't everything. The DS offers more quality games right now. There are plenty of people who dropped the PSP and went Nintendo.

At least the PSP will get a couple of good titles this year. Took them long enough. Splinter Cell anyone? Of course, the DS is set for some really good titles as well.

Suicide Winja, I thought that virtual tennis, ridge racer, wipeout, medievil & GTA:lcs should have been added to your list for great psp games. I don't own any handhelds, but if I did have a strong enough urge to get one, it would be the PSP. It has some of my old favourites from ps1, like Ridge racer, Wipeout & medievil. I've only played need 4 speed & Ridge Racer on it & I was mighty impressed with Ridge Racer.

I don't see waht all the hoopla is about, if you wanna play nintendogs get ds, if you wanna play REAL games, get a PSP. Quality over quantity, girls.

If your dumb enough to spend this much money on a handheld, why not spend a bit more & buy the one with better technology, graphics & multimedia capabilities.

If you wanna look like the nerd you are, spend less, get a ninbendo BS, & sit on the train talking to your handheld like a loon, whilst delicately caressing the touchpad with your undersized nerd pen!s.

God fanboys, give us all a break. The PSP is only new, Sony has balls going up against such a dominant force in the handheld market & their not coming off too bad. The games will start coming in droves once Sony sells enough units.

Geez, the n-gage I could understand the negative comments, but this is just fanatical fanboyism gone nuts.

For every suicide whinger, there is probably 100 people who love their psp's as much as some love their DS's. Besides, if you DS is so great, what the hell are you typing on here for instead of playing it & getting your moneys worth.

Besides what kizza mentioned, PSP's homebrew scene dominates the DS's.
