PS3 launch schedule

According to the above slide used by Sony at last year's E3, we can expect some kind of Playstation Conference in February. That is if the company is still hitting its PS3 development milestones as some developers and publications have questioned.
In related news, the PS3 Developer's Conference will be hosted in London on March 1-2. The event will cover "all aspects of PS3 development" including cell and the OS, audio, graphics, networking, third-party presentations (including Epic and a guest independent developer), middleware, performance analysis, and art/content generation.

What was the 2005 12 *Reference Tool Release? Is Sony Corp a fan of Tool? That would be refreshing.
As for the topic: I have my doubts. This is a slide from E3 `05, and was at best, a tenative guide for the system. I know we've hashed out Sony's tactics on system launches and price points in other threads, but there are some lingering doubts. If it does launch in late spring, they had best be manufacturing these units now in order to meet the demand. We all know the demand will be huge.
I guess we'll turn our attention to the Playstation conference next month for more definitive infomation. Maybe it will ease my doubts.

P.S. Yes, I know what the Tool reference was, I was just being facetious with the Tool band bit. Skip any flaming you had intended, please.

Yey for February :D

Ain't no way this thing will be out before summer. If it is I would watch out because it's going to have issues. With developers not even having final ps3 systems yet I just don't think this thing has a chance in heck of a spring release. If they're smart they will shoot for fall, sometime around Thanksgiving. Yes it would give the 360 even more time alone in the market but the potential fallout from a botched and rushed launch could be devastating. They need to get their stuff in gear, produce a large amount so they are minimal shortages, and then hit full force in the fall. If it's a great system then the 360's lead will not matter. Just my opinion....

Tool Rocks! Awaiting their new album due out later this year...

I agree with #4:
All this release speculation is getting kinda stale. I'm fully expecting for Sony to give a release date at this year's E3. Anything sooner than that will just be a welcome surprise.

Looking forward to the late february event.
I still think fall 2006 for North America. Yep, it's a year after the 360, but given Moore's Law (doubling of circuitry density every ~18 months), I think we'll be able to notice that this is a better machine.
But in the end, it's all about the games. If you're excited about what's come out for the 360, and really enjoyed the XBox1's titles (ie Halo and racing), then that's probably the system for you. But not for me.

I don't get why so many people seem to be assuming that the PS3 will be out in America in the spring.
The "Spring" probably refers to it's Japanese release. After all, the PS2 came out in the spring in Japan, and in the fall in America.
But so many people (not saying anyone on this page) are like "There's no way I'll be able to buy it in the spring!" and, well, they're probably right. Sony never said they'd do a worldwide launch.

Sorry to go off topic but...
O-M-F-G!!! Are you serious?!?!?
Cosmos @ Jan 12th 2006 7:25PM
Yes Tool's new album should be released around 'Spring' as the stickers say on the Schism and Parabola DVDs that were released recently. I would expect it around late May. There is also the Live DVD that is still in the works and should be released later this year. Get your Tool shirts ready, there should also be a tour when the album is dropped. It is indeed the year of Tool and of course the PS3.

There is no way that Halo and racing were what xbox players bought their systems for, but I am not even going into that arguement now. It is clear to anyone who has researched the Xbox 360 and the games coming out for it, that all varieties of genres will come out for it. Get a clue!

It will be out in Spring in Japan, this could be march, april or may. Then about 2-3 months later for us & 2-3 more for europe & others.

Yes, but all those aothers genres will be availablbe to all other consoles. Xbox & 360 need to get some exclusive, unique titles behind them, instead of catering for online mutiplayer FPS's, racers & Tom Clancy crap. Online console gamers do not make up a high enough percentage to make it worthwhile for developers. Thats why all of them have solo player campaigns & most of the online componenets are an afterthought that require patches & crap. EA gave BF2 a completely new single player campaign for the console version, because they wouldn't sell enough copies if it was online only.
PS3 will be here for me in Australia by september (thats what I like to believe anyway).
