Rumor: DOA coming to PS3
An image
scan surfaced yesterday from an unverified Japanese magazine stating that (2) DOA titles will be coming to the PS3. The
translation apparently reads the following: "There will be 2 DOA titles for PS3 confirmed by Tecmo PR." Follow the link for the full image scan and get your Japanese reading shoes on.

It says that details are still scarce for the PS3 and revolution, so the company basically hasn't decided yet. There are 2 more DOA titles being planned, which MIGHT (de mo in the Japanese) come out for the PS3.
In the blue type, it clearly states that the 2 games are being planned for the 360 (the yellow box saying the ps3 is a possibility... but nothing more at this point.)
JW @ Jan 13th 2006 10:10AM
I laugh at all the people who can't read Japanese making specualtion that DOA is going to go to the PS3.
It says two DOA titles are confirmed for the 360 and MIGHT find their way onto the PS3.

Yay...mashing madness and block-free action for all!
Bezial @ Jan 13th 2006 10:38AM
Yes, that may be true, but it might be similar to the 'Death By Degrees'. DOA3 didn't show on the PS2, so only the spin-offs may appear.
Robert @ Jan 13th 2006 10:46AM
I say put the ladies of DOA on whatever system allows them to be rendered that much better. You know that's all we care about.
CapAmerica @ Jan 13th 2006 10:48AM
I find it funny that anyone would think DoA would go to the PS3. Itagaki hates Sony, there are better odds of DoA showing up on the GameCube then the PS3.
This is about as bad as the Europe Nintendo mag that clamied that Perfect Dark Zero would be coming to the GameCube even thou Microsoft owned Rare. Or that story that Halo3 could be coming to the PS3 cause Bungie didn't say which system it was going to be released on.
Its not going to happen. Period End of Story.
recklessgemini @ Jan 13th 2006 11:29AM
Itagaki loves power so this is probable and don't feel stupid if/when it does. It's not like Sony never had a DOA title, they have. You think Namco hate Microsoft? Because they gave xbox Soul Calibur 2 and not 3? If the PS3 does really well chances are really high. Stop being stupid.
Companies only see $_$

It says:
"Regarding our impression of the PS3 and Revolution, there is still very little information so we don't know"
Thats it.
Pxss poor journalism.
Neo @ Jan 13th 2006 12:21PM
Historically, Team Ninja has only worked with the most powerful hardware at the time. They hold no alliegance with any company. This was the main reason why they developed for the xbox and not the ps2. Just look at their history.
Raikage @ Jan 13th 2006 12:33PM
I was checking out some 360 games and DOA4 did not have an "only for" lable on it (like both Rare's titles did)......And all Itagaki wants is power, so who knows....

I think this is def. possible, and very likely. I'd actually be surprised if DOA didn't find its way to PS3. Itagaki not only loves power, but he's went on record stating the 360's decision to run standard DVDs is a major problem that will eventually limit his capacities. Again, this isn't to say he hates MS, but it does express his concern for the console.
Also, don't forget DOA2:HC did make it to PS2, despite it being graphically downgraded (and arguably uglier than its Dreamcast iteration).
Tecmo has an odd way of settling its exclusives, but with development costs hitting the roof, increasing penetration will either mean releasing a game on multiple platforms (be it at release or far apart to give some sense of periodic exclusivity) OR demanding more money from console manufacturers to keep popular games exclusive.
I have a feeling that the latter option won't be too popular for much longer, esp. since costs to make games for first party houses will eat up a lot of investment dollars.
DOA4 or some director's cut will make it to PS3, but if it does, expect the same release on 360, too. Oh, and don't expect it on Revolution. Itagaki is not going to bring the title to Nintendo. Not a bad thing for the Big N, though. Original Nintendo games on Revolution will prob. be the only key games on the console -- and folks, DOA ain't one of 'em.
Doug teh H-Nut @ Jan 13th 2006 1:42PM
#5 called it.
If this is true - emphasis on the "if" then the 360 loses one of its strongest exclusive franchises. At least they aren't going to be PS3-exclusive. Ooh, that'd be terrible.
CapAmerica @ Jan 13th 2006 1:47PM
@10 Only 1st and 2nd Party games are garenteed to have the 'Only For' logo on it, all 3rd party games it is optional.
Dead or Alive 3 did not have the 'Only For' logo.
Condemned Criminal Origins, Quake 4 and Ridge Racer 6 don't have the 'Only For' logo too.
CapAmerica @ Jan 13th 2006 1:48PM
"UPDATE: The statement issued by Tecmo that brought about the speculation that the Dead or Alive series was about to switch over to the PlayStation3 appears to have been the victim of a typo, with the statement apparently supposed to state that the next two DoA will appear on Xbox 360 and not PlayStation3. TVG will have further coverage of the Dead or Alive series in the future. "

I beg your pardon - I have quite a bit of experience with DOA. I've had high hopes for all of them ever since the original one. Supposedly they've "fixed" all of them since. I got as high as a B-rank just pitbulling and doing non-canned strings. Having watched about 1000 A vs. A rank matches that aren't doing anything different that me (except they memorized the strings and get occasional counters). I'm unimpressed yet again. Any game where 95% of hits are either countered or land is by nature flawed. It's like a fighting game version of Rocky, except Rocky can beat opponents in 2 combos.
Check some message boards for any other fighting game like Tekken, Virtua Fighter, or even the 2D games and you'll find the exact same opinion if not some that aren't as kind.
Visually the games are amazing, but gameply-wise, there's a reason while this an other DOA games have been an eternal black-sheep in the fighting game world. It's like Virtua Fighter that's been dumbed down. It's why all of the cross-game champions for other games completely disregard it and most big tourneys don't spotlight it.

brandon @ Jan 13th 2006 2:00PM
Itagaki likes power. He went with the xbox because it was the most powerful of the systems, which allowed him to do more. It's not far fetched to think that he would consider the PS3, especially if it proves to be more powerful. After all, if he doesnt consider PS3 as an option, it will negate his rationale for going with microsoft in the first place.
brandon @ Jan 13th 2006 2:13PM
I agree with #15 Domingo. DOA by the majority of fighting game fans is considered more of the "Kia" of the fighting game genre compared to Tekken and Virtua Fighter being "BMW and Mercedes". They are flashy, but the depth of gameplay isn't as fleshed out as Tekken Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur (among others).
It still suffers from the "Mashers Delight" Disease. You can play DOA3 and 4 by mashing buttons like a spaz and still win. In a game like Tekken 5 or Soul Calibur 3, you would be punished (and punished severely) with loss after loss if you did that. The other games in the 3d fighting world just have more for those who want to be skilled, DOA as a franchise has never bothered trying to be rewarding to experienced gamers.
Jeff @ Jan 13th 2006 2:22PM
Regarding the "update" posted above, that's a bunch of hogwash.
No doubt nothing has been confirmed. I'm sure that's true. But it would be foolish to think DOA would not be heading to the PS3. Itagaki and Tecmo in general have no allegiance one way or another to any console; DOA started out on the Saturn, went to the PS1, then hit the Dreamcast, then PS2, then Xbox and Xbox 360. It's not even really about power (despite what Itagaki says, that's just a rationalization), it's about whatever they have time to do, feel like doing, and think will make them the most money.
It's no secret that the Xbox 360 is tanking hard in Japan (DOA4 has done nothing to change that, despite the prognostication of some around here). When the original DOA3 and XBV were announced for the original Xbox, it wasn't clear that the Xbox would be such a failure there. When DOA4 was announced for the 360, it was looking like MS might actually have what it took to be successful there this time.
I think it should be clear to Tecmo by now that if they want to regain popularity in Japan (and let's be honest - DOA has faded from the Japanese' consciousness), they are going to need to be on a console that actually sells there. That's not the Xbox 360.
Itagaki will rationalize it again by saying "the ps3 has a BD drive" or "the PS3 does twice as many FLOPS", but the reality is it'll be a business decision. And I have no doubt it's coming.
I do think it's really not as important as some here are making it out to be, though. It's a real hardcore game; it doesn't sell as much as you think. DOA3 sold over a million because it was an Xbox launch title; DOAXBV didn't even crack 500,000 (I actually lost a bet on this; I thought sure it would), and I don't think DOAU did much better. DOA4 is a "launch window" title so may sell in decent numbers simply because there aren't all that many games to choose from, but it's not a system seller or anything. Your average gamer does not buy DOA games.
To sum up, is DOA coming to PS3? I'm sure the answer is yes. Does it really matter? Not really.

It's all about marketing the jiggle effect.
Jim @ Jan 13th 2006 2:35PM
basically I'm always positive if MORE gamers can play the games. exclusive games are the opposite of that - so I'd welcome multi-platform DOAs in the future.
but this really is just a typo!
Mark Korsak @ Jan 13th 2006 2:49PM
I already talked about this quite some time ago. I had the first bit of speculation with facts (in american and not jap) when DOA4 was released for the 360. I think DOA4 might be commin out for the PS3. Go to my blog:
http://followingrevolution.blogspot.com
and scroll down and look for a post about DOA4. I cant remember the exact post name, but it has a giant pic of the DOA4 box. If its not on the main page, itl be in the archives. Look around 12/30/05. I think thats when I posted it. I think youl find what I found quite interesting
The ZeroCorpse @ Jan 13th 2006 2:51PM
Whatever. I'm going to go play DOA4 now. On my 360.
Enjoy waiting for the PS3 versions, guys.
nonnudeninja @ Jan 13th 2006 3:30PM
It doesn't really matter much to me, but so long as Sony sticks with their "no unified online network" stance, it's unlikely that online play will be available for the theoretical PS3 versions - leaving them rather crippled in comparison to their 360 counterparts.

Give me a new Tekken, virtual fihgter & Soul Calibre over this anyday.
This is the only fight game that MS has, if they lose this franchise they have no exlusive fighters (unless they get a sequel to bruce lee).
I wouldn't be surprised if Sony get some kind of game from these developers, as they've expressed interest in Sony's new platform. Before this I'd heard Ninja Gaiden was a PS3 possibility. I think (and would rather) they come up with a whole new fresh franchise. Especially for a fighting game, as DOA's characters do not even begin to compare to the tekken characters & the move sets are no where near as extensive as both Namco franchises.
They did release DOA on PS2, I have it & finished it years ago. With namco, midway, capcom, sega & sammy to name a few fighting game developers that are supporting Sony, do they really need another limited fighter in there stable.
I say no, Sony won't miss it, but if tecmo went exclusive to Sony's new console, then MS would have to look for it's new fighter. I just hope Namco release the next calibre for all machines again, as even as a Sony buyer, I like everyone to experience games this good, no matter what your console preference.

Heres the interview translated properly from IGN.
January 13, 2006 - Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda touches briefly upon next generation gaming in a short one page interview featured in the latest issue of Famitsu PS2. While he reveals surprisingly little about his company's plans, he does offer one tantalizing bit with regards to software for the PlayStation 3. After explaining that timing is important when announcing next generation games, he adds, with a laugh, "We will announce titles... shortly."
Yasuda has previously been critical of Sony for its lack of information regarding the PS3. In this interview, he takes a neutral approach to all three next generation systems, citing the Xbox 360 for its internet support, Revolution for its unique interface and PS3 for its visual power.
brandon @ Jan 13th 2006 8:26PM
PC gaming doesnt use a unified online network, that doesn't stop millions from playing online games.
Ken Edwards @ Jan 13th 2006 11:49PM
What, the lack of "Only for Xbox 360" on the DOA4 box did not make it blindingly clear that the game would be released for the PS3?
Tekkenfansun @ Jan 14th 2006 2:56AM
DOA blows,Who give a crap if it's on any consoles.Even Japanese gamers gave up on Itagaki and Team Ninja years ago .He has a few thousand loyal followers but he does not command the respect he once did. That might be something to do with the fact that by designing games exclusively for Microsoft, all he did was turn his back on Japan because as you know,Japan does not like Xbox.In the words of Yoda "Jiggling tits and ass does not a good game make"
El Perron @ Jan 14th 2006 5:25AM
I kinda get the feeling that Dead or Alive 4 is falling behind, sure it shows beautiful scenes with beaches and jungles, but its competitors Tekken, Virtual FIghter, and Sould calibur are beggining to show facial exressions and movement of the human muscles, as for Dead or Alive the characters still do the same as Dead or ALive 3 exept with polished graphics as many people have already noticed.
kizza @ Jan 14th 2006 6:02AM
All power to ps3, I know i'll be buying one on launch. Not because I'm a fanboy, but because I know what i like & PS3 delivers in all aspects... Not just 1 or 2. PS3 will have all the best titles again, because Sony know there sh!t.
