Possible Revolution menu screen

The above video image comes from Nintendo.co.jp via Google Video and appears to be some kind of menu system, presumably for Nintendo's forthcoming Revolution console. The name found on the video reads "Nintendo RS" and is dated 12/29/2005. Upon first viewing, you might think you're starting to play Electroplankton, but in the final frame or two there is an image of menu options. Nintendo RS is clearly seen at the top left corner and you can see a "Start Game" and "Introduce a DVD" option.
The Google video page includes the following description: "Menu beta that Nintendo gave the companies." We're not sure who uploaded the short video, and/or if it was in fact by Nintendo of Japan, but the Nintendo RS moniker is very similar to the Nintendo DS logo in style.
It's been so long since the last bit of Nintendo speculation that we just had to blow your minds with this one. If you haven't already, see it for yourself.

DS = RS?
Dual Screen...
Revolutionary Screen?
(I think the "revolution" may have a lot to do with the "screen")
Mars @ Jan 14th 2006 11:17PM
Looks cool, but time will only be able to tell if it's real or not. Nonetheless, sweet post. I can't wait--it seems so long away.
mike @ Jan 14th 2006 11:25PM
It's fake, the menu was made by a Nintendo.com user.
Saint @ Jan 14th 2006 11:33PM
It's fake. They ripped the screen from Defect DS's work.
Clark @ Jan 14th 2006 11:35PM
i believe thats a fan made picture...I remember seeing something that looked just like tht ont he gamespot forums a really long time ago.
SpottedNigel @ Jan 14th 2006 11:37PM
If only the other options were readable. I do like the bubbles even if it isnt the real thing :)
OM @ Jan 14th 2006 11:38PM
That was proven false a long time ago. Why is Joystiq putting this up now?
uzukinaruto @ Jan 14th 2006 11:38PM
It's fake, the original image was done by a member of Gamefaqs and someone turned it into a video.
Sean @ Jan 14th 2006 11:48PM
Revolution, this is DVD. DVD, this is Revolution.
What a strange phrase.. "introduce a DVD".
Luigison @ Jan 14th 2006 11:55PM
Nintendo is shadowed right side up, but RS is mirrored.
retro @ Jan 14th 2006 11:58PM
Wow, you guys are getting slower every day. :P
First of all, this was from like three weeks ago, and secondly, the menu screens are from an artist rendition by DefectDS (Tim Shundo), menu screens that YOU featured not 2 months ago. XD
Robert Hiskey @ Jan 15th 2006 12:21AM
This is a mock-up created by Tim Shundo, aka DefectDS, whom I work with at NintendoPlayers.com. He certainly never intended for a rumor like this to start, but I can understand how the gorgeous quality of his work could lead people to believe that it was indeed real.
Be sure to check NintendoPlayers.com for more of his work in the future!
Sikaffy @ Jan 15th 2006 12:22AM
Is a Fake, and so old.
RS = Revolution System..
Jaylati @ Jan 15th 2006 12:26AM
#1- It also very well mean Revolutionary System...needless to say I think you're right about the display for Rev.
#5- Yeah you're right. I as well saw it on Gamespot. Yeah this is totally fake. First, The font IMO sucks. It's boring. Then, look at the "menu" nothing is moving except the periods after the DVD thing. I mean with a sweet background like that, doesn't it look like it should move? With something so revolutionary it should, right? I mean, even the PSP's did. Other than that, I am still stoked and praying that Nintendo will reign #1 again...just hoping that it really is awesome and new...because right now, PS3 is looking like my only other option since Xbox lost me with so many flaws.
Noah @ Jan 15th 2006 12:27AM
I seriously think this is crap - the "logo" for the Nintendo RS - no - I don't think Nintendo would go with such a crappy looking logo and introduction for this "revolutionary" system
Praxis @ Jan 15th 2006 12:45AM
This was a mockup created by one of our fellow staff members over at http://www.nintendoplayers.com/ . There were images released months mocking up various interfaces all signed by him, this is a video version of the same thing.
I find it quite funny that people think it's real when it was never claimed to be, just because someone found it somewhere.
Neko Tsukimi @ Jan 15th 2006 1:28AM
Wow, everyone is on the ball tonight :D But I'm surprised that they didn't think it was oddly similar to those concept images from like way last year that were fanmade... I nearly got excited, but then, I remembered.
TaiZ @ Jan 15th 2006 3:20AM
#14, that was the first thing that came to mind with me. I remember seeing an image that was almost exactly the same as the one there a few months in last year.
Greg2k @ Jan 15th 2006 7:02AM
Man, that was a really crappy video. Not only did they blatantly steal DefectDS's work, but they didn't use my NintendoRS logo which is on http://www.greg2k.com/stuff (along with the full RS hoax thing I pulled off, lol), which was spread across the web like mad.
I mean, you don't need to do a Nintendo ON video in order for it to look legit, but definitely MORE THAN THIS.
The_Predator @ Jan 15th 2006 8:45AM
As soon as I saw the 'RS' sign I knew it was fake. So amatuerish and ugly. No company in it's right mind would introduce a console with such a crap emblem. It's not a bloody Ford Rally car.
DCFC Fan @ Jan 15th 2006 9:22AM
I know it's not very polished, but mind you the description said it was a beta. Its all a moot point since we've found the author. Thanks for getting the correct info out there!
Fortyseven @ Jan 15th 2006 9:42AM
Despite how small the world has become because of it, the Internet is a pretty big place. It might SEEM like everyone and their brother knows about a particular thing "going around", but it's an illusion because it's *your* particular circle of friends who know about it.
There are people who *still* have never encountered the "All Your Base" phenomenon, believe it or not. I came in on (what I percieve to be) the second really big wave of popularity, myself. Encountered plenty of people who rolled their eyes in disgust at our enjoyment of it. "That's OLD!" Not to us. Now, I, too, roll my eyes at people who scream "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!", but now I have a better perspective on the whole situation and tend to just let it roll off.
Despite reading lots of game related sites and being a big supporter of the Revolution, I've never encountered the "RS HD-DVD hoax" which apparently happened just before E3 last year. This menu video and mockup being posted? First time I saw it was just now. These things simply didn't get around to the sites that I follow. I did, however, hear about (and get aroused by) the "Nintendo ON" video. Go figure.
So cut Joystiq a friggin' break. If they KNEW this wasn't authentic, they almost certainly wouldn't have posted it. It's not a case of "being out of the loop" or whatever you might choose to label it, it's just like I said, the net is a big place and not everyone is hip to every single fad or occurrence.
Cyborg771 @ Jan 15th 2006 9:49AM
Jeez, that is so fake. That video was increadibly amature and the menu screen is poorly modified concept art from about a month after E3. DO NOT TAKE THIS AS FACT!!!!!
Josiah @ Jan 15th 2006 12:00PM
I'm Pretty sure that's not real....
I've seen the orginal design of theat menu on a DeviantArt Member's Page http://www.deviantart.com/view/20524153/
Juan @ Jan 15th 2006 12:18PM
that is fake. Nintendo RS, oh i don't think so. Nintendo.com already has a page set up for REVOLUTION so RS really doesn't catch my attention, plus that lil clip didn't have audio
Bom @ Jan 15th 2006 12:50PM
What a lame video. Bubbles? That go on forever? Yeah, after the 15th time of that I'd be ready to scream, if that were the startup sequence. I'm not 6 years old.
And a line like "Introduce a DVD" is beyond weird.
DefectDS @ Jan 15th 2006 1:03PM

The Mor @ Jan 15th 2006 7:04PM
I honestly see nothing revolutionary about the freakin' Revolution. Nintendo is gonna innovate themselves out of business.
Kuan @ Jan 15th 2006 11:27PM
That's cool but I know for afact it is not the actual thing. The final menu screen was a mock up made a wile ago in a contest in the Nintendo Power forums. I made one, too (I'm BLAK there, btw) and I distinctly remember this one because it was the best and looked so cool. But, yeah. It looks like he just went and fleshed out the idea a little and put it on the web. Cool, nonetheless.
Zach @ Jan 15th 2006 11:39PM
I found this one here last week.
http://www.wasapi.com/Revolution/images/interface_home_menu.jpg
It's a pretty nice design
Cloud @ Jan 16th 2006 12:50AM
LOL!!! I can't believe joystiq even made this news! You already know where I stand on this.
to #30. Perhaps but it looks like an amateur used photoshop to make it. There is no depth, or even professionalism in it. The objects are in 2d which is obvious that if such a bios would exist in that form, wouldn't you think the objects on screen would be 3D? Regardless its good to see people come up with concept ideas on how they think the rev will be like and the best thing its when you actually see a concept that looked real close to the actual product. :D
Shiine @ Jan 16th 2006 12:58AM
This is fake. The pics has been on revolutionreport (the blog). A guy made them only for fun.
DCSimian @ Jan 16th 2006 9:07AM
For those of us that don't hound the net 24/7, it was welcome news, regardless if it's fake. I do like the design though.
Fortyseven @ Jan 16th 2006 11:26AM
Holy shit, can we get a few dozen more people to inform that this is fake?
Do you even read the damn comments before posting? :|
