I would rather have early arrival so that i can watch blue ray movies as well as have demos released and earlier feedback on interface and technical problems.

I would rather Sony lay their cards on the table. Either put a stop to the 'delay rumours' or admit they may be a posibility.

Being in the UK that means 14 months to wait for a PS3, and that's if i get it on day one.

Everyone jokes about the 360 and it's parallels to the dreamcast, but I'm starting to think Sonys mistakes due to format choice and programming difficulty might make for a rehash of the n64.

If it launches with 2 games and none on the horizon for another half a year, the market could be turned upside down. At least the n64 was relatively cheap.

the problem is that microsoft is forcing them to play by microsoft rules.

a measured, steady stream of information (hell, they even have a blog - http://www.majornelson.com) is flowing from the xbox team. gamers get used to 'being in the know.'

that makes the traditional information management techniques of sony and nintendo look squimish.

people get used to instant gratification and start to bash companies or generate crazy rumors about companies who don't serve their newly found needs.

sony (and nintendo) need to get someone out there in the light preaching the company line.

of course. that will just mean they are bending to the will of microsoft. kind of a rock and a hard place. irritate fans/analysts/journalists or have microsoft dictate your go-to-market strategy.

*sigh* not looking good. welcome to the bigs, playstation team.

Early arrival. But, it looks like Sony bit off a bit more than it could chew. They've promised all of these great things which sounded great, but now seem almost impossible (giving the time frame they've set for themselves). If they felt they could honestly get this system out this year and have an adequate Bluray player inside of it, then why would they announce a $1800 Bluray standalone player at CES? I just don't see how any of this adds up. And to top it off, they are going to have upset fans when the initial launch games come out and people are expecting the Killzone CG movie, but get Xbox 360 graphics instead. Will I buy a PS3 when it comes out...yes (and I'll pay any price, just like I will pay any price for the Revolution). But honestly I don't expect great things from the system (at least not for the first year). I see it ending up like the PSP...a lot of hype.

Hmm at that price who cares? It'll probably get delayed further anyway.

As far as I care, Sony can go down the drain with their blue-ray technology, their crappy TVs and rookit infested CDs.

I'm feeling radical today ;)

Is this anything different than what anybody ever said? When did people get it in their heads that the PS3 was going to have a spring US launch? AFAIK it was always mid-year Japan launch, late-year US launch - like it *always* is for Japanese consoles.

The important thing is the games. I would however like to see it launch as soon as possible. Because the sooner they launch the sooner the price drops and the sooner I'll get one and the less games I'll miss out on because I'm waiting for the price to fall while playing my revolution.

There probably won't be any anouncement until E3 so it's best not to stress over any rumors.

I think the PS3 should come out, when the PS3 is good and ready to come out and not a moment sooner. Here's the situation Sony is facing. The 360 will most likely have more than a years lead time on software development for their system. That means that by the time Sony is ready to drop the PS3 on us, team Microsoft will have, I repeat will have killer apps on the market. History has shown us it's not the power or performace that matters most in the console wars (xbox and gamecube outperform the PS2) It's the damn games! Period. That's why the PS1 continued to out sell the Dream Cast. Sony needs to reeeealllly focus on a unheard of launch for the PS3 to succeed. Sure there are Sony Fanyboy Zelots who would die for them right now, but just like before, that loyalty disloves overnight when your favorite game franchise jumps ship, we go with it like little game rats. Thats the way it will always be. On the plus side. Sony still does rule the game and they have had lightning strike twice already. So perhaps a Spring 2007 release in the US with Metal Gear Solid 4, The rumomred FFVII remake (I can dream) and like twenty other solid titles with some 3rd party shwag thrown in, I think I could wait for a while for something like that.(as long as it no more than five hundie out the gate) As far as the whole Blu-Ray thing. Don't hold your breath. The technology is along the lines of the mini disk in the mid 90s. Sure its cool, but it costs too much and will soon be replaced with an even more advanced technology.(disk media will soon be obsolete with the advances in data storage devices...home entertainment servers ahhh yeah!

I SAY WAIT AND GET MORE GAMES

People, People...

I know we are tired of waiting but we can not let our eagerness override the overall satisfaction level of the PS3. I say we wait, wait, wait, (as much as it kills me) as long as it takes for SONY to get this thing right. I don't know about you but I want the PS3 to be clearly better than the 360, otherwise why the hell did we all wait so long (not for something slightly better than the 360 I hope). In order to be the best you need games. The technical potential AND THE GAMES make a great system. No games = stupid system.

TRUST ME PEOPLE, when you pay $500 for a system and you have no games to play you’re going to be hating life ... and SONY.

Sony's great at delivering... specs.

Sony is sooo done. Microsoft and Nintendo are going to roll over Sony and make them cry like little bitches.

Why the heck would I spend nearly a grand on a console when I could upgrade my PC to decent spec for that much? Especially when the Revolution will be out around the same time, for way less and has that nifty controller on top of Nintendo quality?

It seems to me Sony only fluked out on PS1 and PS2... mainly due to the errors of it's competitors... I don't think they can count on Nintendo and Microsoft to get it wrong again.

Wait for a system that you have no idea what the games look like or how they will be, that makes sense. Are you sure it's not "brand" that makes the system.

"a measured, steady stream of information (hell, they even have a blog - http://www.majornelson.com) is flowing from the xbox team. gamers get used to 'being in the know.'"

Anyone who thinks they are "In The Know" by reading major nelsons blog is a complete idiot. I'm sorry to the fanboys out there but every time I've popped into that blog to see some story I heard about on a real site, I have been utterly disappointed by the closed, xenophobic info on the site. Everything is completely sterilized so as to make the 360 seem awesome and cutting edge (which is to be expected) at the expense of solid informational viewpoints.

try listening to one of the podcasts. they are always original content. interviews with the developers of the actaul systems and services. good stuff. core level stuff. slanted? sure.

it would make me tremendously happy for sony to put out an information source that has interviews with internal developers too.

slanted or not, i don't care. i just want some fresh information.

Finally! They're moving too quickly. Blu Ray movies and players are barely out. Developers have not had enough time to complete their games. And the PS3 is not yet finalized. Spring launch is really pushing it. If it does get released in Spring, it may be costly, in low numbers, and without sufficient software support.

Hmm... I guess I would like to wait. As long as it's worth waiting for that is. It could be a good thing that it's being delayed so they can make sure everything's working right, unlike how xbox 360 started having some problems. but I rather have it come out with a whole bunch of high graphic games along. yep. i'd say it's worth waiting. I just hope they don't dissapoint all of us!

Can we say fanboy?

Slanted is an understatement and does not equal fresh. And you should care if you're not a fanboy.

If the system was any good, you would be satisfied simply by using it and you wouldn't still have a hunger for new information. Unless of course the shite launch has you still waiting for your system. You poor misguided thing. MS crapped in your bed and you still sing their praises.

"Can we say fanboy?"

huh? hooked on phonics not work for you?

how on earth does me wishing for slanted sony information make me an xbox fanboy? can you explain that to me?

here's your likely answer:
"sorry, m3mnoch. i'm too stupid to read. and, despite this being a thread about sony not putting out enough information, i'm going to blindly sling the term 'fanboy' around because i'm not articulate enough to formulate an interesting argument.

what that really means is that i'm a dumbass who only has 2 braincells and it takes too long for them to dry-hump and create any thoughts in my head. it's hard and i just get impatient and don't read or cognitively process much of anything.

and, finally, i'm sorry for calling you a microsoft fanboy when you are asking for sony to give you some heavy, ps3 lovin'."

i mean, i don't care if you call me an xbox fanboy for saying something stupid like 'xbox roxors! ps3 suxors!' but, for wishing sony put out more marketing information on the ps3? are you seriously that inept?

but, yeah, to answer your question. dammit. microsoft shit all over me.

i have a perfectly working, cool to the touch premium xbox 360. a big tv. a big comfy couch. surround sound. a gigibit switch connected to the network right there in the entertainment center. and, finally, every game and accessory out that i want.

damn them for enabling me to get setup with the ideal xbox 360 experience.

my only problem is that my wife's gamerscore is higher than mine.... damn that hexic, zuma and kameo.
