Latest Final Fantasy XII trailer laced with Jpop
A
new Final Fantasy XII trailer has been included as a bonus on a recent DVD release (in Japan) of Angela Aki's
single, "Kokoro no Senshi." Aki's "Kiss Me Good-Bye," a sappy, over-produced tune, is the official
theme song for FFXII and dominates the mood of the CGI-heavy trailer. It's not our thing, but it if you're
into Jpop, then this montage will certainly get the juices flowin'...If you manage to get your hands on a copy of the DVD, you'll also be treated to Aki's rendition of the FFVIII theme, "Eyes on Me" (not to be confused with Tupac's 1996 joint, "All Eyez On Me").
Follow the Read link to view the trailer.

Overly emotional girls, androgynous boys, cheesy music and bad hair styles all around... at least the graphics look decent.
Sorry, I'm not buying this FF game either, but I have a feeling that if it came out on the X360 tomorrow, MS would be looking at shortages there as well.

Cool video, I so need this game...

"If you manage to get your hands on a copy of the DVD, you'll also be treated to Aki's rendition of the FFVIII theme, "Eyes on Me""
Huh? Faye Wong sang that song in the original game. Did they re-record it with this chick? If so... why??
Bob42 @ Jan 17th 2006 3:35PM
This trailer would have been 100% awesome had it not been for the music. This game is supposedly about all-out war, betrayal and all the good stuff - and then they get a theme song like this? That means I'll be playing FFXII with the TV remote nearby so I can mute this crap whenever I hear it in the game, which hopefully, will be only once or twice in the game.
ledorky @ Jan 17th 2006 4:26PM
Man this song sucks and has NOTHING on Eyes on Me.
Whoever made this should be banned from videogame music forever.

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
This game is going to be so good. It seems kinda darker too which is awesome. I played the demo that came with Dragon QuestVIII and im loving the new battle system.
Gah I hope they release a date for the U.S soon since the game comes out in Japan in 2 months

"This game is supposedly about all-out war, betrayal and all the good stuff - and then they get a theme song like this?"
So I'm guessing this is your first Final Fantasy game?
Because, you know, they pretty much all have theme songs like this. And if you're playing an FF game because you like war, then you're probably playing the wrong game. That's *never* what they're about.
Anyway, it's just a freakin' theme song. It, like all FF theme songs, will play exactly once in this form... and maybe again at the end as part of a larger, more orchestral composition.
Of course, the *real* FF theme is going to have to be in there somewhere too - it's in every Final Fantasy game, though sometimes you have to find it.
btw, Joystiq.. this ain't j-pop! It's just a regular old western-style ballad...

Do you guys want some cheese with your whine?
Geez...just b/c something is dark and action packed doesn't mean it has to have loud and heart pounding music in order to envoke a certain feeling.
On a side note...the graphics that Square is able push with the PS2 are just amazing. I can't wait to see the first next-gen RPG they make b/c I'm sure it will be breath-taking.
JohnnyM @ Jan 17th 2006 6:37PM
That Music is so Grating, they should just dub the Snake Eater Them Over it For No Reason That Song Blows any Crappy FF theme out of the and androgynous boys but hey i wasnt gonna but iy anyway not until the get that whiny Femme Boy vibe out of it.
Jago @ Jan 17th 2006 6:50PM
If thats the case then JohnnyM...then why bother wasting our time with your post?
The FF music has been some of the best in the industry for some time now and I'm sure it will be for quite a long time.
Momus @ Jan 17th 2006 7:04PM
Augh, why's it gotta be this way? This isn't FFVIII, it's more Vagrant Story. A seemingly light-hearted Vagrant Story, but that only means it's gonna be "kinda" dreary and disturbing.
Nope. Not cheery enough for this slow and sappy pop.
Bob42 @ Jan 17th 2006 7:32PM
"And if you're playing an FF game because you like war, then you're probably playing the wrong game. That's *never* what they're about."
I guess you've not been keeping up with the game?
"Q: Is it fair to say that war is a prominent theme in this game?
Minaba: The setting of the game -- yes, it is war. There's obviously a story, but the setting is war."

There have been many other comments like this as to suggest a lot of big battles between the two kingdoms and other serious themes reminiscent of Final Fantasy Tactics (which most FFXII leads helped develope). Either way, the theme song is far to quirky for my taste.
JohnnyM @ Jan 17th 2006 7:55PM
why bother with your post just posting my opinions and yes the FF music used to be good until they got the cheesy love themes but the SNEs Music was great but Still Snake Eater pwns jo0

For those uncertain, "Kiss Me Goodbye" is Nobuo Uematsu's final piece for the Final Fantasy franchise. It is my understanding he's been responsible for the music composition in the games I-IX, exclusively, taking part in X, not at all in XI, and now only this theme piece in XII before leaving to take part of his own composition company, SmilePlease. Aki was chosen as the lyricist and vocalist for the song, which Uematsu composed. As was mentioned before yes it'll be in the game, and likely not just in this form. More likely to be only instrumental.
Corgan @ Jan 17th 2006 8:30PM
*And of course, the rerecording of Eyes on Me, is probably a celebration/extension of the collaboration between Aki and SE on Final Fantasy XII.
The ZeroCorpse @ Jan 17th 2006 9:03PM
Oh, yes. I can't wait to sit through another 30 hours of pre-rendered cinemas in the next FF "game."
Jago @ Jan 17th 2006 9:12PM
Obviously you haven't some of the more recent FF games...a lot more of it is done with the in-game engine.
Plus...RPGs actually involve some sort of human emotion (if they are done well) unlike most brainless FPS.
Corgan @ Jan 17th 2006 9:34PM
I'd have to agree with Jago. Besides, a good amount of that was done in game. SQUARE-ENIX has done a good job lowering the polycount and boosting the game visuals in textures, and physics/animation a bit.
I'm just hoping this is a BIG game and not as restrictive as X, more freeform. It looks, at least, to have the ability to be a great epic.
thettrash @ Jan 17th 2006 10:00PM
Damnit. This song made me shoot myself in the head. Where the hell is Jack Thompson when I need him.
Zero_ @ Jan 17th 2006 11:07PM
That wasn't too bad. I'm sure I'll fall in love with the song just like Eyes on me (FFVIII), Melodies of Life (FFIX) and Suteki da Ne (FFX). It's a shame Nobuo Uematsu's contribution to this game is only that song. Oh well.
Jago @ Jan 17th 2006 11:28PM
So what is Uematsu gonna be doing now? Is his new company gonna be doing music for all types of games (which be fucking awesome btw) or is he only gonna be working only with Sakaguchi-san?
Corgan @ Jan 18th 2006 6:32AM
"So what is Uematsu gonna be doing now? Is his new company gonna be doing music for all types of games (which be fucking awesome btw) or is he only gonna be working only with Sakaguchi-san?"
Yeah. To my knowledge SmilePlease (http://www.smileplease.co.jp/) will be working on all types of games - freelance work. It doesn't mean he won't return to work on the franchise, but his work being sole and exclusive to it are over. The site is pretty quirky and has much of his work listed under the new company.
Interestingly enough, I think he is partnering up with Sakaguchi's company Mistwalker on many projects, as they venture out onto other consoles and series.
Corgan @ Jan 18th 2006 6:35AM
Sorry for the double post. http://www.mistwalker.info/ If you go the Mistwalker website, you'll see Uematsu is listed on the company's pages of Creators as the composer, as well.
Jago @ Jan 18th 2006 5:33PM
Oh man...if Uematsu's company IS gonna be offering it's services to any company then I could forsee there being more video game themed concerts. The Final Fantasy: Dear Friends and More Friends concerts were just fantastic.
Choir + The Black Mages + Orchestra + "One Winged Angel" = pure bliss!!!
