Rumored Revolution interface photo

Another rumored Revolution interface screenshot has hit the internet and was said to be found on N-Philes.com message boards. A Joystiq tipster writes: "If fake, [it's] a very good one. Notice it is being displayed on a widescreen TV. There's some kind of battery indicator in the top right hand corner, and the crosshairs are presumably the cursor you move with the controller."
This somehow doesn't look as polished as we would expect from a near-final Revolution build, but who knows. Regardless, if you're ever in the rare position to take a snapshot of the Revolution or any of its related media, please be sure to line up your shot or use a tripod if you have the time. All these obscure images are too darn difficult to gauge.
[Thanks, Badtz]

OMG! That's running on a Panasonic TV! (one of Nintendo's partners in the development of Rev).
/feels as giddy as a schoolgirl on her first date.

C-Dub nothing from Osoko Tanaka is legit
Tushar Dayal @ Jan 18th 2006 3:33PM
looks a little cheap, i think nintendo will go for something more smooth and high-class.
C-Dub @ Jan 18th 2006 3:38PM
well its a pretty convincing mockup thats for sure.
Obsce @ Jan 18th 2006 3:41PM
Actually, to me that bar in the upper right hand corner seems to be a controller. It says the number 1 right next to it, and is colored blue. See the crosshair, its blue as well. Maybe for each different player it adds another bar on the right with a different colored bar and crosshair

It looks like this is the next trend. First we had console mock-ups, then controller mock-ups, and now how the Virtual Console/Revolution menu system looks like. Fake or not, sooner or later, someone's probably going to get pretty close to how the interface for Nintendo's next system actually looks like.

I say it's not legit from the HDTV used as the display properties icon...they say they aren't out to support HD, so why show an HDTV type setup? Hmpf.
And the General Settings using a gear like that, no way would Nintendo use an icon like that, I just don't see it.
And lastly, where's the little icon telling you how to go BACK to the main screen? If this is a sub-menu for settings, there should be a way back in the menu structure.
I just plain do not buy it for a second.

god I can't wait to be playing my Rev on my 2405FPW monitor, with VGA of course. I'd like DVI but VGA is a definite.
yea. Image is fake. but oh well. goes to show how crappy design skills 99% of people have. going back to the DS mockups, not ONE looked good. sure they may know how to use applications to their maximum potential, sure they may spend time making sure the intricate details are bang on perfect, but they have NO skill in media design. It's wonderfully sad.
Roboman @ Jan 18th 2006 3:47PM
Oh my god! Paul Gale! Like, from the EGM board way back in the day!
...sorry.
kevin @ Jan 18th 2006 3:48PM
if you just point and click at the menu items with the wand, how come they're all crammed into the middle of the screen? wouldnt it be easier to spread the options around the screen with bigger buttons? looks like a GUI with a d-pad in mind.
Lectoid @ Jan 18th 2006 3:53PM
Tell you what, have any of you ever come across leaked info from Nintendo that has turned out to be true? I don't think I have ever seen anything come from Nintendo that they themselves weren't the first to unveil.
hitoro @ Jan 18th 2006 4:05PM
Definitely fake. The "Settings" word is duplicated all over the screen making it quite verbose when compared to the original GC config screen. That thing is supposed to work across regions without localisation... Oh, and if it is a beta, then the menu should be displayed in Japanese, not in English.
scott @ Jan 18th 2006 4:12PM
Nintendo isnt going to start following Google's trend of "leaks" of urls or pictures.
Sintax @ Jan 18th 2006 4:17PM
No they shouldnt, Dev kits would likly be given to north american and eourp game companys.
dru @ Jan 18th 2006 4:19PM
It seems to me also that Nintendo is fond of using color for building up their brand equity. After showing off the clean white "ipodish" look of the revolution controller why would they drop that look in the interface after it's gained strong user recognizability? The curtains don't match the drapes.
I also agree with Erick about the horrid use of that gear for "General Settings." As far as icons go, it's hard to reconize means little to nothing for it's user. It seems to me that if Nintendo was going to come up with icons for a GUI interface they would look a little more user friendly and resemble the Wi-Fi logo on the bottom. The one that sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of this fake.
Russ @ Jan 18th 2006 4:28PM
Fake (I hope), because it is not a creative one.
This is just a hodge-podge of beginner Photoshop techniques. The light blue tenticle's are a basic vector technique. The blur behind the word "Settings" is just a motion blur. Finally you can see part of the mouse pointer arrow on the far right of the screen, right smack dab in the middle.
Jody Anthony @ Jan 18th 2006 4:40PM
I'm sure it's fake, but I actually think it's kind of cool looking, bright and colorful. Much better than those pictures from that survey thing from a few days ago. Man, that was ugly.
