sorry, i also had to lol @ more tidbits from the JoyStiq reader braintrust....

"with cheap korean companies like samsung underpricing them all over the shop. "

Samsung is, according to a recent NYTimes article "the new sony" and has'nt been a "cheap" brand for years. In fact, they are fairly premium priced in the market, and their string of CES awards every year is but one reason they are a legititimate consumer electronics leader, not a "cheap discounter".

and jesus christ it annoys me when people say "ninty" instead of nintendo.

I just love all the fighting. It brings all of us together.

I use to one a gamecube and medal of honor but sold it for a PS2 and Killzone and now it collects dust till Black is released (i'm renting). I don't own a 360 but I've seen it played at target and it looks amazing. I would buy it but the price for the console and games are too expensive for me. Maybe in a few years I'll pick one up or there will be one i can fix on ebay. If the Rev games are too expensive I'll pass up on that too. But I still have my pc and it can handle games like FEAR with all the goodies without any glitches so my pc and monitor is my next-gen machine. Plus I can do school work with it! I'm not really a hard core gamer, I'm an on clearance gamer.

Oh, i'm 21 and I remember the Nintendo-Sega era. I only had one game for each: a sonic game and a mario game (they came with the consoles). Anyone remember blowing into the cartridges to get them to work, the good old days.

Have fun fighting about games!

Fils-Aime is good and bad for Nintendo.

The bad is he takes away from the "we're not competing" theme that Iwata and Miyamoto are aiming for. This makes it seem like even though Nintendo has stated they don't want to compete, Fils-Aime wants an all out war.

The good is he wants an all out war. He's saying Nintendo's got the games and potential to give Sony and MS a run for their money, and that they can and will kick some serious ass.

In the end I think Nintendo needs someone like Reggie, at least for America, to make Nintendo seem like more of a gaming powerhouse and not just here to make subtle toys.

Reggie said: "For example, for American consumers to get into the Xbox 360 franchise, with games and extra contollers, they had to spend more than $700..."
$700? I'm trying to figure out where he is getting $700. Lets see, $400 for the premium 360 with hard drive/headset/wireless controller, $150 for 3 more additional wireless controllers, plus 3 first party games would be $700.
Based off the limited info at hand, the Revolution might cost around $300 with a wireless wand controller, a memory card might be $30, $120 for 3 wand controllers with nunchucks, $100 for 4 shell controllers (are they free w/wand???), and $120 for 3 first party games. That comes to $670. So it might only cost $30 less to get into the full Revolution franchise experience. And will the Revolution come with a headset? It better be free and plug into the wand controller or the cost just went up. And you will need more than one memory card if you are going to want to keep all of your saved games over the systems lifetime. I'm not seeing a lot of savings for a system with half as much ram.

nintendo's hardware and a few playable games will steal the show. microsoft's second wave games will come in a close second. sony will still have hardware under glass.

it's as simple as this. the 360 experienced probably the worst shortage of product I have ever seen in a console launch. When gamecube came out I could walk into any store and just pick one up. NO WHERE could you do that with the 360. Secondly, nintendo did NOT launch all over the world at the same time, and neither has sony ever done that. The point is, imagine if there HAD been enough 360's to fill all those pre-orders, and so that EVERYONE who waited in line could get one, and so that any mom or dad could just walk into best buy and pick one up. I don't think it's any mystery that M$ could have easily sold 3 million plus 360's in it's first month. They moved 1.3 million units in the first ever WORLDWIDE launch. They took a risk and did something that no one has EVER done before. Granted, if you ask me it blew up in there face, but if you consider these unusual circumstances that only the 360's launch has, it was in no way, shape, or form a "failure".

I'm no fanboy, and I hope to see the revolution succeed just as much, because unlike the mario dick sucking nintendo fans, sony worshipping lunatics, and master cheif halo freaks, I play VIDEO GAMES. Not "just PS2, or just nintendo" I wont swear my soul by one console just because I agree in what they stand for like I'm fighting for the freedom of my damn country. There are good games for every console that make it worth buying, hell I could name a few titles that made a 3DO worth buying for me (night trap anyone?). The point is, I can't stand how even the executives now are just aiming there comments to shoot down what the other one said, it's turned into some stupid fucking game exec. soap opera that just makes me want to start chanting "jerry, jerry, jerry" and the sad part is they have dragged the rest of the gaming industry into it, to that point where they can make someone hate another just because they like a rival video game company? Seriously, just play the fucking games and shut the hell up. I own a 360, and it's no "failure" of a console. Neither is the gamecube, the PS2, the XBOX, hell even the sega saturn has some good fucking games for it (die hard arcade, knights, panzer dragoon), we all know the dreamcast was an awesome console as well. In 2 years, if I'm sitting here playing my 360 that suffered the same fate (M$ would never do that, but still) I'll still be having fun playing good video games. Most of you guys pass judgement on a damn game just by looking at screenshots, or by looking at the console its on or the company that made it and just say "oh that game looks shitty" without even playing it, and now, thanks to Microsoft, for the first time I can actually download a demo on my CONSOLE just like it's a PC and try a game out before I buy it. This is something that will most likely be a trend that the other's will follow...Microsoft also created the first ever unified online service in XBOX live, something that once again has changed the gaming industry, they were the first to put an HDD in a console, they created the Live! arcade service, they were the first to have integrated wireless controllers. Say what you want about microsoft, many of the things they have done have changed the way we play games for the better, not for the worse. So how can you sit and say something is a complete failure? Sega used CD's way before anyone else did, Nintendo was the first to have a wi-fi handheld, and hell a controller, and a vibrating one at that. Sony was the first to put a DVD drive in consoles...all of these things are resbonsible for the ADVANCEMENT of gaming. And you fanboys are only taking things in the opposite direction.

Xbox 360s are pretty cheap on eBay now, in comparison to what they were a month ago (much to the sellers' disappointment). I was hoping for 2006 to be a monster race among the big 3, but for the MS hype to die down so fast is kinda eery. And all you kids selling off your 360s just a few months into the fray, don't you think that's kinda premature? What did you expect MS to pull off in less than 200 days? The 360 is still a great piece of hardware and MS is rich enough to buy you happiness, so I expect they'll have a big year regardless of the lackluster launch.

360's are still going for AT LEAST $100 over retail. The cheapest core system I could find with a bid on it was $395, and the premuim was $530 for the cheapest with a bid. If people are STILL paying that much for them, the hype has in no way "died down" It's just that xmas is over now. When you start seeing new 360's going for less than retail, that's when it gets eery. Besides, most of the reason they have gone down now is that they are getting easier to find. My local best buy had 2 premiums on the shelf and 3 cores. They were still selling fast, but at least you dont have to wait over night to get em now.

I do agree though, M$ will not allow the 360 to be a failure, whatever the cost, but I dont see it going down in flames in any way. M$ has tons of great games coming out over the next 6-12 months. I can't wait for oblivion, ghost recon, 99 nights, fight night round 3, RE5, etc.

I'm here for one thing.

To the person who is ignorant enough to say the stupid remark about flailing your arms around to control the Revolution. The person who said it was gimmicky and the person who complained about the mouse that sensed touch.

1. Not every single game for the Revolution will force you to use it for movement sensitive games. Look at the Nintendo DS. There are many games out there, which are great games, which do not encourage using the touch screen, do not use the touch screen, or it is not a huge part of gameplay besides menu navigation. These are great games for the DS, but do not use its extra capabilites. If the Nintendo released another Game-Boy instead of the DS, it still could have been a game on it no problem. Just because something has extra stuff doesnt mean you gotta use it. Just because my brand new car has AC, doesn't mean I gotta use it in January, (hence doesn't mean you have to use new features on every game on the DS). Also there will be games, I'm 99.9% percent sure of it, that will only use buttons. Coincidently, if you turn the controller around, it looks like a NES controller. Did the NES controller prevent good games with its interface? No, it has few buttons, yet it provides much fun. I'd rather play SMB than a nwe FPS that uses 18 buttons. SMB rather than a new RPG with a complex 8 layer leveling and magic system. Sure do I like a good complex game, yeah sure. Do I need one to have fun? No, definelty not.

2. Gimmicky? How is this gimmicky. Yeah sure, added a new dimension, yeah thats right I said it, a new DIMENSION, in the way games are played and controlled are gimmicky. I remember when people said the Nintendo DS was gimmicky around launch, how the touch screen and would create games that were frustrating to control. Morons who never used it who said, HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO LOOK AT TWO SCREENS?!. Yeah, Nintendo is a huge company, been in the buisness for years, and Nintendo isn't the company to release a piece of crap without testing it to see if it works and functions. See in the NES days with ROB and the Power Glove, Nintendo tried those tactics then when they ruled, they thought they could release crap and sell. Now they have learned.

3. The guy who complained about your mouse. Nintendo didn't make that crappy mouse. You see, like I said before, Nintendo surely test their products for durability, quality, and functionality. I'm sure its not a coincidence that Nintendo's recent console the Nintendo Gamecube, is the most sturdiest piece of gaming hardware anyone's ever seen. Seen those shows where they smash it with a Sledgehammer, drop it 50 ft from the ground, SHOOT IT WITH A GUN. Even drag it behind a car for a good mile. Do you think its coincidental that Nintendo happened to make a product that was that durable while the competition made a product that could not stand a trial like that more than once or twice? You think Nintendo just was like, "look at that, we made a durable and quality console accidentaly with NO EFFORT!" Also R&D labs, they make sure they aren't releasing crap out there. They are working right now to perfect sensitivity to the best it can be. They are making the controller to the best of their abilites. They don't just implement the features and boom their done. They test it, they find what could be better, they take it back, and do it again and again. I mean really, Nintendo isn't a person, its a giant group of people working together, like any company. They aren't going to make a stupid move like release the REV with the possibility that their is a flaw which makes playing the games difficult or uncomfortable.

Done.

Man this is so Good I had to say something, the fact is reggie has a point whether you like it or not. True part of the reason 360 under sold was because of a shortage, but here is what you got to ask yourself: One whose fault is it that there was a shortage, and two MS hyped this system to high heaven and yet failed to understand the demand of it only sending 600,000? So you believed it was good just not that good? Last top trying to say handhelds don't count as a gaming console they do, maybe you don't like it but a handheld game systems does count. Now you may not like that fact but when the market looks at sales they will take a handheld out selling a game console into consideration. That being said The xbox 360 is not battling for the handheld market so it doesn't really hurt them in the direct home console market just in the over all console market.

As for Reggie's comments lets face it When Ballmer did it to Sony last week Xbox 360 fans had a little giggle the problem is that little giggle probably openned the door for these comments. You think sony is giving any respect to xbox 360? Sony and Xbox go for the closest set of fans nintendo fans are nintendo fans they aren't leaving anytime soon. People who want a power house consoles low on innovation big on graphics and mature content are Sony's and Xbox target. Right now Xbox 360 just isn't doing good, maybe a month down the line but right now no. A shortage here in america, No movement in japan, what would people like Nintendo to sit down and act like nothing is going on? Matter of fact 360 fans should rejoice because it means somebody recognizes your system of choice as a contender, cause sony doesn't even respond to your very being.

Sony came to CES with nothing of the PS3 that is a Much bigger slap to the face to me personally than somebody insulting my system, why? The reason is if I yell "YOU there I will be your opponent" and the person I am facing turns their back looks into the crowd and responds "not worth it" and all I can do is stare while people hang on their every word I am nothing more than a stepping stone. While people are insulting Nintendo and Reggie, Sony has ignored MS exsistence while showing nothing and yet people are still hanging on sony's every word while the Xbox 360 has debuted. NOW that is a smack to the face.

How Long till stagantion from a shortage here and low sales in japan start detering japanese developers away from the xbox 360. Nintendo has proof that their innovations can bring in money and revenue from a user base with the Nintendo DS, split screen was said to be a gimmick and never catch on, 4.5mill ds later it is only becoming stronger. Developers will start to move towards Nintendo, but more than that Nintendo's first party keeps them alive makes them a viable gaming system. Xbox first party was Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo( I may be wrong if I am sorry) and both those games were rated less than stellar. So they have to go for the same third party games as Sony, and yet the PS3 hasn't even given a release date yet, and already I read rumors on the net of DOA going to sony PS3, Xbox 360 is out and can't protect the games that are their staple from a system that isn't even out on the market yet.

So your next Gen Console system is being compared in sales to the last place console system of the last generation system war. You have a shortage in the region where you can generate the most revenue for your new console, your system isn't moving abroad in the second biggest video game console buying region. The number one Gaming consle company doesn't even bother to look in your direction much less recognize your system. Your console has been compared with the worst launches of any game console of all time, in which every console before yours that have recieved that dubious honor has failed, and you people think Reggie's loud mouth is a problem?

Microsoft really gave a good effort to turn the tide....
They got Ridge Racer, which Sony always has had on their launch platforms...
They're going to have Hironobu Sakaguchi, which every successful console has had working on it since the NES...
And they got Tetsuya Miziguchi (sp?) to do an exclusive game for their console....
They have a Final Fantasy game for their system (albeit an older one)
They got backwards compatibility for their library (for the most part)
They have the best (and only) unified online-gaming community in the industry...

Everybody I know that has a 360 loves it....

on paper, the xbox360 is doing everything right.

So my question is... why isn't it selling in Japan?
This bothers me a little.
Does the xbox name carry some kind of social stigma with it or something over there?

The first X-Box was huge, most Japanese live in to close quarters to allow for its existance.

its like if the first time you ever went to McDonalds and you wanted a hamburger, and they said you cant have one, you can only have a grilled cheese sandwich (which I personally would prefer to their hamburger :P)

would you go back a second time?

in Japan there isnt enough room for that beast of a (original) X-Box, not only that but im willing to wager the heat thing is a problem there too. or the Power consumption.

once the PS3 comes out and Japanese realise that the PS3 is just as big, and that its just as hot, and just as power hungry they may decide to buy X360. then again they may just go for the Revo.

1 question I have, with all these systems using bluetooth, how many modes are there for the controls? isnt it conceivable that if you are playing PS3 and your neighbour downstairs is playing too eventually you will cross paths and he will control your guys? maybe he turnes his PS3 on while you are in the middle of a boss fight and he/she gets you killed? worst of all he would have no idea until you start jumping up and down in anger :P

"@ Kizza (again) - "gimmicky bullshit" ? What the hell do you think games are in the first place? Isn't it gimmicky enough that you're sitting there, staring at a TV screen controlling a pretend character whose killing ninjas, or driving through cities at 5 thousand miles per hour in a car you will never own? Games are just that. GIMMICKS! You aren't REALLY rescuing princesses, or killing the Covenant or throwing turtle shells into the back of Bowser's head.
Games are gimmicks made to bring enjoyment and a relief from everyday stresses & life. If you can't appreciate that you should burn your *name your connsole here* now!"

Sorry penis breath, a game is not a gimmick. Games can have gimmicky features for no reason like the bullit time gimmick used in every game after max payne. But a gimmick to me is a short lived thing. You see I go to a gym a few times a week & its worth my time (not a gimmick), then undreds of thousands of people buy the latest ab cruncher & never use it (gimmick). A gimmicky item is hardly used. Online is not a gimmick as millions of people depend on it, use it regularly & its used to run bisiness these days. The eyeto, the latest ab flex doer, the vr goggles, sega cd & the new revolution controller are & will all be short lived gimmicky products for the user.

I mean seriously, even the ds's voice function is a gimmick. i've never seen one kid walking down the street or on a train, talking (like norman bates) to his handheld console. He would be beatin by his school mates for being such a retard. Most kids are too embarrassed to use a feature like this. Basically it may be used at home by some kids, but why would you play a handheld at home when you can yell abuse at a real person through yourheadset online on xbox or PS2?
It a gimmick.

Dear Shit-finger aka Kizza

While some games are worth playing for long periods of time, or worth playing often in short periods of time. They are still non-the-less GIMMICKS!
Or are you seriously trying to tell me that your one of those types to play a game till you die?
I don't know about you, but gaming is something most normal humans do in their spare time.
Fair enough you may like screaming at people on Xbox live for 14 hours a day. But the rest of us simply don't have the time or energy. Wanker! I can imagine you do spend so much time masterbating over your beloved console because when you look at the rest of your life there really isn't that much going on.
The rest of us have lives and girlfriends/boyfriends, friends etc, while you go to work (presumably) to the gym then back home for a good love-session with your Xbox.
Its all clear now, without your console you are nothing! No wonder you defend it to the hilt.
Get real its a gimmick! Your whole life is a gimmick!

Consider yourself pwned!

Sincerely - Kye :)

I agree with the person who said that the reason why the GC sold so much over December is because of its bargain price. Hell, I ended up buying one (after much agonizing over an XBOX or PS2).

However, one thing to keep in mind is that the people who bought this 'failed system' did so because of the price. Up here (Canada), the bundles were $120. Hell, Wal-mart had a GC on for $75! And being some of the games were cheap ($20...Wally world had Metroid Prime 2 for $20), people took notice. Lil' Jimmy is complaining for a 360, or other console, but Mom and Dad can't afford one and get a GC. Jimmy may be happy he got a console, or is disappointed ends up enjoying it. Suddenly, the name Nintendo is a good thing to Mom and Dad (who likely know little-to-nothing about consoles...except for the price and what store drones tell them). This may encourage a future Nintendo console purchase as the family is happy with what they bought. If a customer is pleased with their purchase, they will likely return...how many XBOX and PS2 owners will go back to the new respective consoles.

Personally, I know I almost purchased an XBOX. My brother has one and I enjoy it, but his is starting to go. I liked the games on the PS2, but the hardware issues worried me. I ended up on a Gamecube due to the price and some of the games. I am happy I got one, but am perturbed that it is a dead fish (officially...moreso than when it was released). I only wish there were more games being released for it (Winning Eleven!) and more crossover games (Mercenaries and The Warriors would be nice!).

That being said, I know some people are having fun and others are shit disturbers. Just remember, as someone posted, that Reggie Fils-Aime, no matter how he may look, is the VP of marketing in Canada, North America, and Latin America. The North American market, like elcetions, sports, and such, are always about one-upmanship. And given his list of credentials, I think he has the smarts to pull it off.

I can't wait to see how this plays out.

Its microsofts fault that they didn't make enough to sell, so don't use that as an excuse. There is 250 million people in america. And microsoft made like what, a million 360's? yeah that will work...

When I first noticed that guy (E3 2004) I wondered how such a person could do marketing for Nintendo.

Well, he talks a lot but I really don't see where's he going with that - Gamecube wasn't very succesful but the handhelds saved Nintendo's numbers gracefully.

Probably Reggie is payed just to make people talk about Nintendo?
