Review of Nintendo Power issue #1

Released in the summer of 1988, Nintendo Power was arguably the video game mag that put video game mags on the map. This review by X-Entertainment was first published in 2003, but for those who haven't seen it, it's a worthwhile and entertaining read regarding the state of games circa 1988. From the article: "... for those who remember it or are otherwise curious, today we're going to take an in-depth look at Nintendo Power's famous debut issue... The magazine might not seem like much to those of you who weren't into Nintendo when it came out, but seriously, this was a big deal back then. Real big deal."

I have the last two magazines before Nintendo Power, and like the first few years worth of Nintendo Powers. I am sure I will be easily beaten though.

Good thing too, I will be able to look up the old codes and maps for the old NES I will get with the Revolution.

I have boxes full of Nintendo Power. Over 10 straight years starting from issue....15ish I believe. I stopped when they were just a straight propoganda machine.

HOLY SHIT I FORGOT ABOUT THE CEREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
In an era marked by the crappiness of over-marketed, over-sweetened cereal, the Nintendo Cereal System really was the worst offender. And yes, I tried it as well as the Pac-Man branded cereal. Boy did they both suck.

I owned (and beat) every game listed on that page.
LOL....

back in the 80's, did anyone try Wayne Gretzky's "Pro Stars" cereal?
I never had the Nintendo cereal. Unfortunately, back then my little brother chose the cereals. He'd choose count chocula. In hindsight, it was better choice.

I used to have that issue as well as many others. Talk about old school.

My first issue was the Star Tropics cover. I had every one for like 5 years after that. I still remember the excruciating waits for the summer issues because when you are that young those days are REALLY long. Good times. I'm still pissed that they put Robin Hood on the cover of that one summer issue that took 2 months to get to my house!

double dribble was the greatest game evar! (next to the original double dragons on NES)
