Screenshots: Panzer Dragoon (PS2)

Famitsu magazine released new screens today of the upcoming PS2 Panzer Dragoon remake. Though the above images aren't the clearest, RetroGaming writes: "Not only [does the game] look smooth and beautiful, but it looks like the overall feel of the original game has been maintained. The guys over at Sega are saying that the game is progressing nicely and that they are happy with the way it is turning out so far."
Welcome to the next level. Panzer Dragoon on the PS2 is slated for an April 27 release in Japan.

I wonder how it would sell if they released it on the DC in Japan...I mean there are STILL games being released for it every so often.

Damn...when I first saw the title I thought it was a new Panzer Dragoon game. If a new Panzer Dragoon is made exclusively for the 360 then I will buy it for that game alone.
Panzer Dragoon Orta on the original Xbox was one of the THE most beautiful games on the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube generation on ANY system.

From the link:
"Since the original was a great game, but had rough graphics, I was very interested in this upgrade."
Well it WAS on the Saturn...what did this guy expect? The Saturn was never designed as a 3D machine. The only reason Sega threw in some 3D graphics processors was b/c they shit themselves when they heard about the PSOne.

We can only dream back Lit we can only dream. On a different note, you know Xbox 360 doesn't want to hear any Panzor dragon news for the PS3 that would just enrage them probably.

"Since the original was a great game, but had rough graphics, I was very interested in this upgrade."
WTF does he expect? The Saturn was from a generation earlier - of course it had rough 3D. It would have had rough 3D on the PSone too. Fool.
It will be good that such a great game can be submitted to a wider audience by putting it on the PS2, but I think it may have lost a certain 'wow' factor by now - 10 years or so after its initial release.

Pretty sure Xbox had a Panzer game like 3 years ago. Dont know why they'd waste their time porting a saturn to ps2... Should make it a next gen title. Guess we'd have to wait since the ps3... oh hey just put it on that xbox thingy.

I cant wait for this to come out. Way better then orta

They should be remaking Zwei and Saga, if anything.
Tamo @ Jan 19th 2006 8:24AM
How about a true sequal to Panzer Dragoon Saga coming to next gen systems instead. That would get me interested.
Mr. Pointy @ Jan 19th 2006 8:33AM
This isn't a remake.
It's actually a retro budget release for their Sega Ages line up.
Brian @ Jan 19th 2006 10:03AM
This is an ok idea an all, but you could unlock this in panzer dragoon orta. Orta, was a brilliant game that never really caught on. I would love another Panzer Dragoon sequel.

Wait, someone said the Saturn version had rough graphics? No, absolutely not.
It was a first generation 32-bit game. It came out in May of 1995. It blew everyone away. Its only problem, and this was a rampant problem in the early 32-bit era, was pop-up.
For its time, Panzer Dragoon on the Saturn was mind-blowing. To say otherwise is to show ignorance.
I only wish it were coming for Gamecube.

Don't forget Panzer Dragoon 2 on the Saturn. The graphics of that game at the time were absolutely breathtaking. It's one of the first titles I remember running at 60 frames per second, the other one (that I remember) being Virtua Fighter 2. The fluid movement and amazing artistry made that game probably my favorite Saturn game. I never got to play the Xbox game because I didn't have an Xbox. Now that I have a 360, I'm sure hoping they make a new one... or at least make the Xbox game compatible with the 360. Hope hope.

Right... people are getting all excited over basically nothing here. This isn't some special thing the PS2 is getting, it's basically just a straight port of the original. Sega doesn't even put much effort into enhancing the graphics in these things, although there's a certain amount of almost inherent improvement when you up the resolution and frame rate.

Yeah, too bad about four people in Japan own PDO. This is for the Japanese market.

Panzer Dragoon Orta was one of the most beautiful games I have ever played. It's up there with Rez and Ico.
I don't see why they're porting the original. I'd much rather see Saga or Zwei redone.
Coincidenally, anytime anyone talks about Perfect Dark Zero, I always read it as Panzer Dragoon Zwei (PDZ) or Panzer Dragoon Orta (PD0). I guess that's what I get for being a Sega fan.

Isn't Panzer Dragoon just a big sega rip-off of the Star Fox?
Levi @ Jan 19th 2006 6:43PM
Ahem...BUT STILL NO NIGHTS INTO DREAMS! WTF!!! Sorry about that. Thank you.
Omar Saboor @ Jan 19th 2006 11:43PM
The Dreamcast Versions looks waaay better.
Jago @ Jan 20th 2006 1:39AM
No person has yet to answer this for me but what is so great about "NiGHTS into Dreams"? I have it for the Saturn (and the Christmas edition that came out in Japan) and it doesn't seem all that great.
...and yes I have the 3D controller as well.
Jago @ Jan 22nd 2006 4:32PM
...still waiting...
I guess no one can come up with a reason why "NiGHTS into Dreams" was so "Great."
