1up's latest reason to make headlines, the
supposedly
plagiarized Dead or Alive 4 strategy guide, has finally been solved. In an article posted today in the
site, 1up's Sam Kennedy confirms that the strategy guide has
been reposted and that the DOA Central forum members (with a special nod to VirtuaPai) have been properly thanked for
their contributions. According to the post, "it was an oversight not to make mention of this -- likely because of
the nature of the source (various posts on a fan forum, as opposed to a published piece elsewhere) -- be he should
have." In other words, it does not sound like anyone is losing their job over this.As the update notes, the DOA Central forum posters "have been thankfully very understanding," and 1up's policy is to "always give credit where credit is due," alluding to the extent they include external links in their articles and features.
About six months from now, most of the craziness from the last 24 hours or so will be forgotten, and the DOA Central posters will still be given credit. This does set precedent for future use of information garnered from forum posts - so is this a happy ending, after all?
