actually bd the over heating problem is from the p/s not the 360. The problem wasnt with p/s either only a few. the playstation 2 had this problem for 5 versions of the console. I was a problem with EVERY ps2 bought before a certian date and with certian serial numbers. my point is that an over heating p/s happens to very few 360s however almost all of the affected ps2s developed this problem.

"I don’t think many games will be optimized to run at 1080p, because that would be very costly for developers, unless the 360 supported the same resolution (which would still make it expensive, but less expensive since they would be doing the same amount of work for both consoles instead of more for just one console)."
guess what, developers can store high-level descriptions of objects in the 360s main memory, and have the CPU procedurally generate the geometry on the fly. It will NEVER cost the same to make the exact same game on the ps3 and the 360 because the 360 can tessellate models from the main memory on the fly. this has to be done by an artist on the every other console and they dont do it for free. Thats what next gen is about my friend. better games that take less time to make.

"actually bd the over heating problem is from the p/s not the 360."

The p/s is part of the console.

"The problem wasnt with p/s either only a few."

It doesn't matter where it comes from, what matter is that consoles die whether it comes from the inside or the outside.

"the playstation 2 had this problem for 5 versions of the console."

The majority of people I know with a PS2 have never had to fix it. I know like 10 people with Xbox, and 3 of them had to get it fixed; one of those had to get it fixed twice. The number of Xbox 360 users with a failure seems to be much higher, according to most numbers, except microsofts of course.

"I was a problem with EVERY ps2 bought before a certian date and with certian serial numbers."

Really? EVERY? Then why is my PS2 perfectly fine when I bought it little after it launched?

"my point is that an over heating p/s happens to very few 360s however almost all of the affected ps2s developed this problem."

umm... "almost all affected ps2s" well duh, they are AFFECTED, but almost all PS2s didn't develop that problem. It is the same ratio, if not higher for the 360; and it barely launched, so the problem hasn't been "taken care off".

"guess what, developers can store high-level descriptions of objects in the 360s main memory, and have the CPU procedurally generate the geometry on the fly. This doesn't have anything to do with the fact that the PS3 can display 1080p resolutions, but while we are at it, the PS3 can (and will) also do that; it would be fanboyish to think otherwise. Proof and example of that is that some of the PS3 developers will use the tool "SpeedTree" for procedurally generating forests on the memory, so Xbox 360 can eat its heart out.

Also, I would love to know where you got your "numbers" from, when they are not numbers in the first place.

In almost every website, including Joystiq, there has been a massive ratio of failures (more than 10%), just look at the polls.

Boy, a lot of you really hate Microsoft. I am excited for the PS3, but it isn't going to come out for about 9 months. I bought a 360 and it is really a blast. Call of Duty 2 is great and PGR is a lot of fun, and I can play them right now. While you PS fanboys spend the next few months complaining, I am enjoying a next gen system.

I sometimes wonder if people are just happy because they spent about half a grand on a box that plays games more than the quality of the games themselves.

Not to say that CoD2 is a bad game (it's a fantastic game), but considering it had also been ported for the PC, came out a month earlier for the PC, was $10 cheaper on the PC, and the game mechanics haven't changed much or any from most other FPSes, it's funny people would tout that as the greatest game of the year of a brand new system. To be honest, the games that came out for the 360 so far have been pretty mediocre/abysmal.

I question the methods analysts use to determine how well a system will sell because, let's face it, most of the time they aren't right. Mathematical tables, formulas, and statistical analysis don't completely and accurately tell the future of sales.
