In early November,
Mother/Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi asked us to "please forget
about [the impending Mother 3] for a short while." That short while has ended today, as Itoi himself
confirms the release date of Mother 3: April 20th, 2006 (Thursday).According to his website (translated by a forum poster known as NattyBumppo), this is the "final" date: "once the release date is set...we'll no longer be able to fiddle around with anything in the game." Hence, the game is complete and is just hiding in the bushes, awaiting its assault upon the eager Japanese consumer.
How about some screenshots? Any word on a US release? So many questions still left unanswered, but at least we're sure that these questions will be answered sometime before the end of April. Mother 3 is a GameBoy Advance title, and "that naturally means that you'll also be able to play it on the Nintendo DS that everyone's so crazy about these days."

[Update: fixed the title - a horrible error on my part that should have never made it to publication. I apologize for the confusion and as an act of contrition I will now insert this carnivorous Earwig into my brain.]
