An exhaustive list of DS variants

We knew Nintendo is down with special editions, but we never suspected it had gotten this bad. I mean, there's over 30 different units here! Collectors the world over are being crushed under the weight of such pressures.
If you want to know what the Japanese, Australian, or European DS systems look like, they're here. How about Alan Cumming's or 50 Cent's? They're there too. Mario Kart special editions, Electroplankton special editions, Nintendogs special editions, all there! Even these glittery thingies (pictured) which are only available at the Nintendo World Store in NYC are there.
Nintendo, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. I know you can get better... just be sure to make a Zelda one first!

So when are we getting a special editions like our japanese or american counterparts? Doesn't anyone think how annoying it is that japan and us get all the good games be it ps2 (guitar hero, ico), ds (animal crossing, phoenix wright) or xbox (erm...)

Can we say "Play it loud" editions? If anyone is old enough to remember the original gameboys when they first started color swapping them.
I wonder why the graphite and pure white DSes have never made it out of Japan, I would have bought one by now if they had.
All those different colors and all I want is a revision...

I want a Zelda DS! Think it should be Link tunic green and come with Wind Waker DS built in (blow into mic to change wind direction!)
I play on my girlfriends at the minute but it's a pink one so I can't use it in public without being feeling silly!

They have a triforce GBA and a Naruto GBA too. I went there on opening day, so I didn't get to see any special DSes, but there were loads of GBAs.

The alternative editions are nice, but ultimately the DS is still a cheap-and-cheerful chunk of plastic, and no amount of colour variation is going to change that. I enjoy my DS, but I'm looking forward to a revamped version that will hopefully be slimmer, lighter, and not have a GBA cart slot right where my left thumb wants to be.

I love the way the DS can be personalized according to what you like (though it can get expensive importing, however, it's not impossible). It makes your DS unique from all the others, including all that space to put decals and stickers. And though it's possible to put skins on the PSP, there is much less room for expression when it comes to Sony--and it's whole proprietary philosophy that's choking them at the moment.
I majored in anthropology, and one of the things that I learned when it to archaeological artifacts is that you can observe the characteristics of cultures from the artifacts they produce. and though both Sony and Nintendo products are elementally corporate and mass produced, you can clearly see their philosophies on their handhelds. And yes, this philosophy should carry over to their next gen consoles. I give the hands up to Nintendo.

the link doesn't work (the link to the site... a Link DS would work just fine for me!! :-) )

Are these any more expensive than a standard DS?

There was also a MarioKart DS bundle here in Japan with a red DS. I don't remember it having the hotrod flame decals though.
