Reaction
to the 1UP DoA-guide controversy extended to a few
more online forums in light of (or in spite of) the resolution seemingly reached the
other day. It's almost like a case of he said, (s)he said.
On the one hand, you've got 1UP Editor-in-Chief Sam Kennedy discussing the issue on his blog, writing off the incident as "an unfortunate mistake"; on the other, you've got Christopher Keith (aka "VirtuaPai") making his case against 1UP -- and Richard Li, its guide writer -- in an interview posted on GameDaily (and linked via the image above).
Keith is quoted in the four-page article as saying: "I cannot speak for the players at DOA Central, however,
there is nothing that 1UP can do that will appease me." An earlier post on
GAF by Executive Editor Che Chou is referenced as
a 1UP comment/response in the GD article, but the article itself was apparently posted before the 7:00 PM PT update on
1UP (regarding the reinstated version of the guide which now briefly credits VP for his
hard work). Could Keith possibly have been mollified by the change in stance by the larger community site?
Regardless of how VirtuaPai feels, DoAC has apparently buried the hatchet, proclaiming on its front page that "[u]pon receiving
this acknowledgment in their DoA4 guide, DoACentral would like to express their gratitude to 1up.com and that no
resentment will be fostered." Not everyone may be satisfied with the outcome, but we hope everyone has come out of
this (a little older and) a little wiser.
