It's a shame really. XBOX has it's biggest percentage of market share here. Yet we have the second most expensive console (NZ beat us by $3) and we get it last.

Well maybe you guys will get more than 4-8 per retail outlet.

Extra 3 weeks should bump that to at least 5-9.

Dear Microsoft,

We're hearing rumours that Japan has a slight surplus of Xbox 360s. How about sending a few of them to us?

Yours sincerely,
Australia

"And second, the team will be organizing "special gaming opportunities" for valued customers before launch. Special gaming opportunities? Could this mean another super secret rave in the middle of the desert?"
Nope, but it does most likely refer to lucky winners of an Xbox 360 VIP bonus competition in Australia being invited by email to attend a pre-launch 2-hour gaming session at Microsoft's Sydney Office on Jan 29th. ;)

"XBOX has it's biggest percentage of market share here. "

Honestly, from what I've seen and concluded, Australia is a very Sony prominant region, very prominent. All I see are ads on TV for PS2 bundles, PS2 games, and in many gaming retailers, there are about 4-6 shelves of PS2 games as opposed to 1-2 of XBOX games.

I agree Zero_, Australia is very much the same as the UK, Sony is the favourite, MS is next, Nintendo is far in the distance.

This new xbox console is going to be priced out of reach of most buyers in the short term... It's about 6 times more expensive than a GameCube, 3 times more expensive than a PS2.

PS2 has been doing great lately over here with the Singstar advertising - my girlfriend, who is a nintendo fan (simply because i am), wants a PS2 to sing karaoke style with her friends.

TBH its not going to make any difference at all if we get a delayed launch. A small number of people will be dissapointed but I'd rather the thing come out in 6 months time at a more reasonable price!

While I do believe Sony has the larger market share in Australia. I’m pretty sure that per-capita Australia is the Xbox’s largest region.

All faggity, homosexual, couldn't get a girlfriend so you had to settle for a boyfriend, bullshit aside, I just wish sony, nintendo & MS would almalgamate some kind of online service for 3rd party games, to allow us all to play each other online.

Wouldn't it be better for all of us if we could play anyone, anywhere around the world on a game like battlefield, no matter what console they are on.

Every fanboy keeps raving on about MS's online service for 360........ what crap!!!!! If they want to move forward, they should allow us (the gamers) to be able to hook up online against any console. I understand this is not possible with exclusives & 1st party software... but man, it would still be shit hot for all multiplatform onliners....

Sony & Nintendo should try to allow this to happen, as it's the only way I see online can go to move forward..... I mean there's only so much downloadable content, web cams & other gimmicks that can fool people......... It's already getting boring & not moving online GAMEPLAY forward..... Soon people will wake up & realise that the only way to make online console games bigger & better is to use the same system as pc's........ I mean who really cares about a friends list & other dumb crap like that... As long as you can find someone to play on all games, I'm happy. If people with dells couldn,t play compaq or mac players online.... Then it would not be as good as it is.
I would just like to get what I pay for & be able to pop anyone online, regardless of console preferences....... Everyone will alway have & buy their favourite machines for their own reasons, which is fair enough.... I just think if we hand over our hard earned for that plus games plus over priced broadband (especially in aus), we should be able to play the whole goddam world. If I'm on my ps3 playing timesplitters 4 I should be able to pop & be popped nintendo & 360 users alike.

Anyone who doesn't wish this is a retarded, fanboy that does not want to see online console gaming used to it's full potential...... So all you fanboys, stop raving on about live & admit that this kind of online feature would be better than any of the new gimmicks that live has offered with 360.

Mach, please do go to the pre-launch party where M$ laughs at all the stupid people who still want one of their crappy systems after they treated us like 3rd class citizens.

Proof?:

The Australian Xbox 360 is the most expensive in the world.

The premium package doesn't come with a headset.

Games cost up to US$85.

Once the console was launched in America, we were told we can wait another 3-something months.

And even that was bullshit with their new delay. We are now the very LAST to recieve their system.

The VIP pack is a complete scam. Sure, its cheaper than buying them seperately, but who ever heard of a $170 20GB hard drive?

Plus, to be ASSURED of a console on the 2nd, oh, wait! 23rd! of March, you have to buy their stupid pack.

IF you are still completely retarded enough to buy their shithouse system, I pity you.

I spit on everything xbox.

13 (John) - I'm not speculating, this was confirmed by IGN in their report on the delay and MS themselves have said so in the past. Per-capita Australia is their strongest market.

"It's
strange, too, since Microsoft's market share for current-gen consoles is largest in those countries at about 40 percent." - IGN

By the way, Joystiq needs a preview button for these post.

Considering the Xbox 360 is based on GameCube archicture more so than Xbox, I wouldn't make fun of a system a few times more powerful. There is a reason Resident Evil 4 is the best looking game of the current generation. Apparently MS was impressed by the efficiency of the ATI and IBM processors that powered the GC. While a slower clock speed than the Xbox, bus speeds were much better in the GC, allowing for some impressive visuals. Had the GC been on par in terms of DVD and online support, it probably would not hvae been seen as underpowered and certainly would have outsold the Xbox by a wide margin. It was already ahead worldwide for most of the console lifecycle.

I suspect this will be developed with 480p in mind, which will be better than what most current gen users are used to. Considering the Rev should be able to run Resdient Evil 4 on multiple monitors at once powerwise, I don't think there is anything to worry about graphics wise. The real battleground will be interface, and Nintendo apparently has that in the bag for the next five years. I can't speak for all territories, but considering the success of the DS over the PSP in all territories so far and recent polls in Joystiq indicating that 85% of consumers want either a Revolution or a Rev and one of the other two systems (as opposed to 45 to 55% for the PS3 and Xbox 360) I wouldn't count Nintendo out. That poll was statistically significant, with over 7,000 unique respondents...

How many of this huge number of 7000 respondents were made up of the 100million PS2 owners, or the 30million xbox owners. 7000 doesn't seem like a great number to me really....It more seems that nintendo fangirls are more likely to frequent these sites & enter into ridiculous debates & polls like this, simply because they've finished mario sunshine, Resi evil 4 & the other 2 games, & are now bored.

I'm afraid you people have no idea when you bring ds & psp up.... most casual gamers really don't care about this & won't buy the gamecube or revolution because their handheld sells better than sony's. The fact is that if this were true, why did everyone not buy the n-64 & gamecube when the gamboy, Gb advance & sp were the reigning kings of handhelds.

As I said nobody cares, as far as REAL GAMERS are concerned handhelds & consoles are 2 totally different markets.... In thaht I mean statistics will show that a huge percentage of 18-40 yr olds play consoles, while handhelds are predominately a school kid product.... This is why a cheaper handheld sells better as most parents will not spend the type of money psp goes for, for a form of entertainment for their childs bus ride to school.

The fact of the matter is that in consoles sony & ms have the marketshare dominance.
I see Sony having the clear lead again & MS being a little closer this time, then nintendo will be behind, surviving just doing it's own thing.
Respect to nintendo for being too smart to go the way of sega, but they do need to start getting the top 3rd parties interested in making games for them.

In the last ten tears sony have been the new nintendo, they opitamise what snes was all them years ago. PS & PS2 brought to life some of the best games & series of the last 10 years....games like.
Driver
Destuction Derby
resident Evil
Tomb Raider (forget PS2 version)
Tony Hawk
Ridge Racer
Gran Turismo
Wipepout
Metal Gear Solid (revived from the dead)
Soull Calibre (blade)
Tekken
Final Fantasy
SSX
Timesplitters
Red Faction
Medievil
Syphon Filter (forget PS2 version)
Ratchet & Clank
Jak & Daxter
Medal Of Honor
Burnout
Socom
Cold Winter
Fear Effect
Devil May Cry
Onimusha
Colin Mcrae Rally
Burning Road
Ico
Shadow Of Collosus
Katamari Darcy
Legacy of Kain
GTA
Bushido Blade
Tenchu
Disruptor

These are just some of the great titles that have either been born on Sony's console, revived on it or brought to it 1st from the arcades. I have missed many little one off gems on PS1 & 2, I'm sure.
So all you nintendo fangirls, stop crying & buy a PS3 & revolution, then you'll have something to play in between killer apps on the Revolution.....Problem being with all the killer games on PS3, you probably won't have much time for the rev.
