360 Dashboard update "imminent"
HardOCP has received MS
confirmation that an
update to the Xbox 360 dashboard is imminent, noting that it was supposed to "head to
production" on Friday, "but a few minor issues pushed the target date back to Monday"--which, of course,
is today. If the original Xboxic source is to be believed, this update "will contain fixes for all currently known lockups in games, missing or impossible to get achievements and a bunch of new functionality in the Dashboard" (possibly including support for a 360 camera).
If a Call of Duty 2 patch hits tomorrow as well, Xbox owners could potentially have quite a few downloads ready and waiting for them as they sit down to play this week. Getting through games without having to cheat or exploit glitches would be a nice change of pace.
[Thanks, m3mnoch & everyone else who sent this in]

Yeah, they must love m3mnoch, because I sent this in last week and they didn't do an article...

"Whats this I hear acout a Call of Duty 2 patch today?"
Well, that patch would be coming tomorrow if HardOCP's right, so here's hoping...

SickNic, we've been watching the story on Xboxic as long as you have, but getting (official?) Microsoft confirmation was the kicker in this case. At any rate, we'll see soon enough whether HardOCP/Xboxic got this right or not.

Can anybody give facts on the call of duty 2 Patch? what will it allow us to do besides not lag? any custom / private games? anybody know?

I downloaded the dashboard update, and I didn't notice any changes. Even the rumored improvement which was that we could now download things while doing something else at the same time isn't there...
I guess that I was expecting too much, its probably only some internal tweaking...

PGR3/DoA4 crashes when retrieving Guide information seem to be fixed at the very least. Background dash updating was never promised just expected by a lot of people.
I've heard rumors that the CoD2 patch is postponed for max. 2 weeks, but from a source less reliable than HardOCP so I didn't do a story on it yet. I've been trying to get solid information for the last few hours but nothing so far.
My original source on the dashboard update only claimed the dashboard would be updated and it would fix common problems related to the Xbox 360 kernel, which is exactly what it did. The CoD2 patch is all up to Infinity Ward, although the current update may also have fixed certain things like the save-game bugs: I have not heard anyone complaining about lost savegames since yesterday, and Microsoft would never officially in a press release admit to having such a bug, let alone fix it. Instead they just state "various fixes to the dashboard".

Hey, thanks for the info, Curry! It's much appreciated.

I meant ofcourse "Background downloading was never promised just expected by a lot of people." in the second sentence above, my apologies, it's late here :)
