Yes, folks, it's still alive and kicking - everyone's favorite vaporware is "in full production" according to George Broussard, co-founder of 3D Realms. In an interview with 1up, towards the end, Broussard chats about the status of Duke Nukem Forever, the unfortunately-apt title to the game over a decade in development. Hail to the King, baby!According to Broussard, "there's a lot that's finished. All the guns are finished. Most of the creatures are finished...we're just basically pulling it all together and trying to make it fun."
So, there you have it, an actual status update on Duke Nukem Forever. If they get their act together, 2006 may be the year pigs fly - then again, we predicted that Duke Nukem Forever still would not come out in 2006, and whose to argue with us?

That's a losing strategy. The underlying fun-factor should have been conceived at the beginning of the project, not towards the end. How often does a set of finished pieces come together and, voila, it's FUN? It's near impossible and a total crapshoot.

That's called game design. I would have hoped that stage would have been crossed many years ago.
If they've spent the past umpteen years working on guns and monsters, we'll be lucky to get a 3006 release.

Seriously, now, who is still paying these guys?

I think you're reading too much into this. "Trying to make it fun" can mean tweaking game balance, adding a new boss, changing a level layout that didn't quite work out as well as the original idea suggested.
I can think of plently of games that would've been great had the designers stopped and asked themselves if a particular element was as fun as they hoped, then took some time to fix it.

If you had told me last year that George would be formally announcing full production on DKF in February 2006 I would have laughed and carried on.
This is great news.
So now begins the speculation as to which platform we are going to be playing it on.
How awesome would it be if it were to come out for Revolution?

Seriously...just b/c he did an interview and said something doesn't mean he spilled the beans on everything that has been done.
The game design and the concept artwork are 2 different things. Weapon, item, level, etc. design changes just as much as the game script and design doc do.

The "forever" refers to how long we'll be waiting for the game to be released!

Seriously, 3DRealms would have gone out of business years ago if they had to rely on actually earning their paychecks! I loved Dukem Nukem 3D. Couldn't wait to play Duke Nukem Forever, but it's gotten to the point where if it is ever released, it will make Daikatana look like Half Life 3!!
Quite simply, 3DRealms earns money by licensing the name to companies that actually produce games. They don't actually do anything themselves anymore. Apparantly, no one in the company actually knows how to do anything if it isn't using the build engine...

Fingers crossed it matches their e3 trailer from 2001, which, to this day is still my fav all time game trailer (from a production point of view, and a "wow, that looks cool" view)

Also, I'm hoping that the longest FPS development time of all time equates to longest FPS singleplayer playing time. With that I'll be a happy customer.
Also, I hope I can give female npcs cash to see their boobies. teehee

Duke Nukem Forever is suppose to follow the PC releases as a sequel to Duke Nukem 3D (1996), Duke Nukem II (1993), and Duke Nukem (1991). I who use to dream that this game would come out don't think we'll see this game this year nor next year.

Actually people that think this game has been under development for 10 years and with THE SAME ENGINE is a complete idiot and ignorant. The game has switched engines 2 times , first it used the quake 2 engine, then unreal and then unreal tournament (its the engine they're using right now) which it DOESNT look like unreal tournament at all right now, only code thats been left from UT is the network code, all else is Completely new. The game has been in development with this engine for 4 years, only thing that is 10 years old is the IDEA of the game, period.
You know? it doesnt hurt to actually SEARCH for info or even check out the 3dRealms forums before making stupid and ignorant statements that only serve to make yourself look like a n00b.

Well with Mother 3, Duke Nukem Forever and the Phantom all being announced to come out this year. I think 2006 is gonna be rather interesting.
