I sincerely hope Nintendo doesn't choose hardcore techno for the menu music.

#6 is still my favorite.

"Is Nintendo's DS really "Dual Screen," or just a marketing name?"

Hmmm ... maybe you are being rhetorical or even sarcastic here, but I'll be naive and bite anyway.

Nintendo's official Japanese website does imply (although not explicity state, anywhere that I can find) that DS does indeed stand for "double screen".

FWIW

OK guys. If anyone wants to make a mockup, for fuck sake, use my logo. It's the only one that looks believable enough for a decent hoax.

Yay, finally someone made a menu screen with the worst possible music to be included in a menu screen. Ever.

I may be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that DS originally stood for "Developer's System" (or something like that) because they wanted to give developers a new kind of system to work with. It was convenient for marketing reasons that DS could also mean "Dual Screen." Their hope was that developers would use the new tools available to them (2 screens, touch screen input, microphone, etc.) to innovate and create new kinds of games. Innovation is something for which gamers have been screaming for a while now. What better company to lead the way than Nintendo?

What an incredibly terrible boot up. I mean seriously, who wants to hear some LOUD AND ANNOYING TECHNO? Who wants to see amateur typography and design? I think the layout with Comic Sans was the best so far.

How about "Revolutionary Style"...while entertaining, can we stop posting "Possible Revolution Interface" when it's a bad Flash animation with worse Photoshopping and still worse music? Maybe we need a new category like "Not-Even-Remotely-Possible Revolution Interface"

The best fake so far is the so called "meeting shot" with the projector and New Mario Bros...

"DS" stood for "dual screen" while the platform was in development. When the system was offically named, the "DS" just became "DS". It's the same thing that happened with AARP and KFC.

If thats and xbox boot up screen, I can understand, but not for nintendo... please take a reference from previous nintendo's boot up screens (NES, gameboy, SNES, virtual boy, N64,DS....etc) The screen is too busy for a Nintendo production, they are not dumb you know!?

does anybody find RS to be a dumb name for a system? I mean Revolution System, it doesnt make sense, did they call the original the Nintendo System (NE) no why dont they put RES it flowes alot easier and makes more sense, Revolution(ary) Entertainment System.

this name would also leave the possibility for the next incarnation to become the HI-RES (Hi Def Revolution Entertaninment System)

White Rose - actually, KFC's marketing dept. has recently announced it's switching back to "Kentucky Fried Chicken." They changed the official name to KFC in the first place because they felt "fried" was becoming a bad thing to be associated with health-wise. Guess now that everyone's fat and doesn't care anymore they figure it's time to go back to their roots

White Rose Duelist, you nailed it. It's not a real name, even if it infers Dual Screen. It's the DS. Period.

the fan-imposed moniker, RS, is the most idiotic, unimaginitive, and derivitive (as most fan-produced art and ideas are) concept I have seen since the ideas for the PS2 trickled out from fan communities back in the end of the 90's.

For those that don't remember, most of them had a similar opening hatch like the original PS1, among other design similarities to the original playstation system.

USE YOUR IMAGINATION!!!

this is why the Nintendo ON video was so cool, because that guy actually went out on a limb and designed something!

I never fail to dispense mad props to everyone who can name fonts off the top of their head.

"PROPS DISPENSED!"

Very few people appreciate the level of dedication, commitment, and sheer boredom it takes to learn fonts by heart. OF COURSE there's a difference between Georgia and Times New Roman! Do you not have eyes?!

RS... repetitive strain?

Oh I can imagine thew lawsuits now - "I got RSI by playing the RS"

They should just call it the Revolution, maybe N-5? How about the 360-raper?...

Pls start all comical/non-sensible suggestions... Now:

DS stands for "Developer's System", yet it is commonly referred to as "Dual Screen" in the same manner as DVD which stands for "Digital Versatile Disc" swapped in the word "Video" to sound more consumer-friendly. The DS was a code name and only reached consumers because it was so popular already, and Nintendo felt that it was better to go with a sub-standard name that was still appropriate, then to re-brand the thing completely.

Hey, what's up?
I have made this ad in hopes that you give me your opinion on my name logo and catch phrase for the upcoming Nintendo Revolution. I hope you like it, I made it my self! lol
The reasoning behind the name NINTENDO EXP is Nintendo Experience. Of course, the name Experience re furring to the kind you will ONLY get with the revolution. Considering its pad and the other innovative things the console will offer. I think its clever and that this should be the name for the revolution. Thank you for your time!

To skibble:

I worked for a year as a typesetter for a publishing company, and I had to learn the difference between many fonts. But besidees that, the font used in this mockup is fairly unique and for those who have it, they generally would have had to download it themselves, thus showing an interest in it and remember it thereafter.

I agree with poster #2, Soothsayer, mockup #6 is the best.

Yeah, I was just pointing out that (although it is a fake) I don't think that Nintendo would go search for "cool" or interesting-looking fonts like that on the internet to use as a logo... like I do sometimes.
