PlayStations nabbed from children's hospital [Update 2]
Some despicable bloke has
made off with a pile of PlayStations from the Yorkhill 4B Ward in Glasgow, Scotland. The
sole remaining console must now be shared between more than a dozen children who are being treated for severe burns.
Many of the patients are confined to their beds for weeks at a time, so the gaming consoles have become an important
resource for staff caretakers. In response to the egregious act, Angela Kelly, a Yorkhill nurse, has launched a fundraising drive, with the hopes of earning enough money to purchase 14 new PS2s, one for each child in the ward. To prevent future theft, the nurses plan to secure the consoles to trollies. A recent study has shown that playing games helps distract patients from pain.
UPDATE: For more information or to donate, contact: Yorkhill Children's Foundation
[Thanks, David]

Despicable. Someone inform Gabe & Tycho. Maybe Child's Play can help.
Jose @ Feb 2nd 2006 12:55PM
Yeah, where can we send money?
32_Footsteps @ Feb 2nd 2006 12:57PM
Wow... I've seen some pretty low things in my time. But stealing consoles from burn victims? Are they trying to make people who use drugs fished from a toilet bowl feel better about themselves?
PapaZeb @ Feb 2nd 2006 1:06PM
I think that's my intention just now, I may have some contact details for the Yorkhill hospital.
I'm from Glasgow originally, I've supported Child's Play every year and had hopes at getting Yorkhill in for next year to increase the UKs presence beyond the school in Liverpool, but this situation just makes me sick.

Unbelievable.
Find the thief and set him ablaze.
How do people justify such unforgiveable deeds like this? The thief is scum.
Edgar @ Feb 2nd 2006 1:08PM
Thats Low.
But hey they get to upgrade to PS2's...
Speaking of which I can't believe the current price for. They still cost more than a Gamecube.

A bullet in the forehead seems an appropriate course of action to follow in retaliation to this.

That was my fault, sorry - I'd used a comma at the end of the URL. The links in 15 and 16 work fine and dandy.

If Sony's paying attention they should donate a stack of machines and earn millions in good will.

Been thinking about trading in that playstation2 for cash or credit? Send it to these kids instead. I just did.
Andy Grey @ Feb 2nd 2006 6:57PM
I recently was staying at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, who has a PS2 in almost every room. SWEET! But there was incident of theft a few months ago. I couldn't believe people would do this to someone like myself, who would have trouble sleeping and enjoyed playing a game or two. Just not right.
r3m0 @ Feb 2nd 2006 7:17PM

Same thing happened not long ago in denmark on a hospital. After the story was in the news people started donating a lot of ps2s and in the end there were enough for each and every room. They got a lot of games too.
