Forget about market share leader, which current-gen console manufacturer had the best logo? If you would, leave your biases at the door and pick the one that is most visually appealing.

my favorite is the gamecube logo. i'd like the xbox more if it were another color. i've never liked the whole green thing. never liked the ps2 logo.

I love Nintendo, but I have to admit that the XBox logo is creative. I'd go XBox, Gamecube, and PS2 in that order.

I loved the animation for the GameCube and the look of the Xbox logo. I agree with Nick Lundgren on the "bland"ness of the PS2 logo (even though I love that "wyyeeow" sound that accompanies it. It's better than the ripped off spiderman thing their doing for the PS3 though.

PS2 looks the best, followed by the cube. I never liked the xbox logo.
As for the next-gen, the 360 is much better than the PS3 spiderman font... well if that is font used for the final product.

I really liked the commercials where the Xbox logo would be "shot up" from the television -- I thought those were very appealing. I also like the way the Gamecube logo rolls out during the splash screen. The PS2 logo is just stupid.
I'd go with the Gamecube logo for the inherent "GC" and the cube structure -- pretty neat.

I'm leaning GC. The xbox logo looks dated (maybe it's the green?), although there was a time that it was totally brill. The GC logo is timeless and pretty much perfect.
In the spirit of fairness, however, this particular reproduction of the ps2 logo looks like crap.

I'd give it to the Gamecube. I've never liked the xbox logo (especially now that it's on a sphere with the 360). And the PS2 is too clean for a game machine. It would totally work for a vcr though.

I always thought the Gamecube's combination of a letter "G" with a cube was clever. Also, the PS2s logo is kind of boring today but I remember thinking it seemed very "next gen" when it first launched (back when I was still playing games on an N64).

The PS2 mark is the only logo up there. The other two are symbols or icons without the accompanying type, they do not make the full logo. It's also the mark that most gracefully downgrades to black-and-white, which all logos should due. Nintendo's GC icon works in B&W. but you lose the depth of fit. The Xbox "X" doesn't really work in B&W at all.
Unfortunately, most game-related design is garbage. The overwrought logo is a related issue.

I would like to root for Ninetendo, but Xbox wins hands down. That logo is amazing. It is very bold, and looks almost like its breathing.

I think the Green X is a better logo, though the game cube looks cool it's hard to see anything and the PS2 well I always thought it was too bland even the original playstation logo was better

I hate it when all game ads show both the old and new playstation logo. First I thought, woah, is there a PS1 version of this game? Now I think it's some Sony requirement to give their brand 2X the exposure.
Logo wise, I like it to be small, neat, and squarish, so it's between the GC and XB. The GC logo works on both white and black backgrounds, while the XB one only works on black. I would have to go with the XB logo for the nice green color. The GC one is a bit bland color-wise and it reminds me of an 80's movie company logo.

Definitely the Gamecube's. The PS2 is rather safe, the XBox's is a good, especially the way it looks like gaping cuts, but still, the Gamecube's is the most interesting visually, and cleverly combines various elements in an intriguing way.

I'm an Xbox fan. But, looking objectively, I really like the Gamecube's logo. The Xbox's is a close second. All Playstation logos (in fact, all Sony logos) have always seemed incredibly sterile to me.

looking at the gamecube logo, it could even be a question mark rotated to the right. it would be the ?Cube. i vote for gamecube because of the splash screen.
i wish for rev they would use the voice from eternal darkness (for gamecube) that you hear say "nintendo" whey it flashes up nintendo's logo/name as you load the game.

The Gamecube logo has aged the best, it still looks good in 2006
Green has never been a colour but green and black look pretty good together.
I've never liked the PS2 logo and it hasn't aged well at all, it looks very 1990's.

I like the GC one, just because it looks like a cube. The others are arite, but they're not very inventive - just an X, and the PS2 alphanumerics. I'm sure they invested millions of dollars at an advertising company coming up with logos; I find it hard to believe that was the best they could come up with.

Gamecube, hands down.
It's a brilliant logo, when you break it down:
- The entire logo is a cube
- The form creates a 'G', the negative space creates a 'C'
- The center is yet another cube
The PS2 logo is sleek, modern and simple. The XBox logo is good, but uninspired.

I _like_ the Gamecube logo better. But the Xbox one is, thinking like a marketing guy, the better one. It allows you to do more with it, easier to remeber, bigger, etc.

Gamecube without a doubt. Xbox close second. The PS2 one works in Black and White better, but it's just such terrible design. I was overall dissapointed with the PS2's design, though. The PS One (first generation of them, not the redesign) was my favorite console design, until the Xbox360. Nice looking system, great controller, GREAT family logo.

yep. from a logo design perspective, the gamecube logo is head and shoulders above the rest.
1) yes, as someone mentioned, it's a cube and is a cool stylized gc.
but also from a practical logo design perspective:
2) it is compartmentalized and well distributed from a 'square footage' perspective. i.e. not tall and skinny or long and skinny. (unlike the ps2)
3) it's easily scalable, both large and small, and can still be read and recognized. (unlike the ps2)
4) it can be placed on any color background. (unlike the xbox)

uh. maybe. if this was simply a 'news' site. it's a blog too. features, commentary, news, opinion, audience participation, all kinds of stuff. it's like an epicenter of contemporary gaming culture.
original content is where it's at -- not just regurgitating press releases or linking to other people's original content.
