James Cameron's Project 880 MMORPG to precede the movie
James
Cameron's Project 880 is not a movie based on a game, but rather, a movie with a game tie-in that will launch
before the movie. You dig? The idea is to get consumers hooked on Project 880's "completely crazy,
balls-out sci-fi" universe using an MMORPG title, and then, before the excitement dies down, release a film that
will give fans a story to relate to. But with Cameron still busy writing the screenplay, Project 880 is still
years from fruition.[via Gamecloud]

Yeah, cool. And we all know how these schedules always work out! Tron 2.0 for instance. Could be interesting, but a movie has a story arc, and a MMORPG needs to be interesting on a day-to-day basis - I wonder if Cameron and his team can pull it off. If the Matrix game had come out before the film, a lot of people might have let it pass without seeing it until it hit cable.
I'm thinking we might have a better chance of seeing Vinnie Chase in "Aquaman."

Hey, if this is in any way going to reflect the Battle Angel Alita mangas then this will be one crazy endless melee. Can't wait for the endless Motorball tournaments we'll be having every day.
Last on top of the junk pile loses their temporal lobes!

Is it Project 880, or Project 800?

another way to look at it is, rather than in game cutscenes dealing with story exposition, he's making a feature length film to take care of it.

call it project 911 because the rpg will be ripped to shreds by World of warcraft.
