Despite saying that they wouldn't, Nvidia have released an AGP version of
their flapship GPU, the GeForce 7800. The AGP compatible GeForce 7800 GS has a cut down feature set with only 16 pixel
shader pipelines, compared to 24 on the PCI express 7800 GTX. Hothardware.com got their hands on XFX's version of the
7800 GS and concluded that this is Nvidia's "fastest AGP based card yet". We're glad to see that Nvidia hasn't forgotten the huge number of gamers out there whose machines lack PCIe support. Still, we wouldn't be surprised if this was the last major AGP release from Nvidia.
