Our so-called
sister site, DS Fanboy, has
just posted up the latest Japanese sales charts. While the facts themselves are certainly interesting, DS Fanboy also
provides a bit of commentary regarding the DS' soaring sales (which I find even more spectacular given the recent
announcement of the DS Lite). Ludwig's analysis is
buried underneath a ton of sarcasm, but that may not make his points any less true."As you can see, the DS is still having a hard time being accepted by the Japanese public, barely making an impact after selling more units than every other console combined. Clearly, this abysmal failure is indicative of the DS' embarrassing lack of trendy multimedia features, cutting-edge graphics and the ability to play the Will Smith classic, Hitch. Hopefully, Nintendo will learn from this sorry state of events and start focusing on the things that matter."
So, our question to you, ye faithful PSP fanboy, is this: Why is the technology inept DS outselling the vastly superior specs of the PSP? Is the PSP ahead of its time? Does the market not need another all-in-one media player? Does the PSP's gaming experience lag behind the DS' that much? Or is this purely a cultural thing, where this lop-sided preference will only be seen in that one market.
