I own the first edition gp2x and know many people who own the second edition. The only differences are new milky white coverings over the power leds reather than the clear glass on the first editions. Also the units no longer say 1st edition DUH! There is also a rumor that the second editions do not contain thermal pads (heatsinks) if this is true it will reduce the overclockability of the second editions. Peace out and dont forget to check out http://gp2xreview.blogspot.com

I want one, just because it will do everything that I expect my DS not to do. Besides, I love linux anyways.

yeah, the gp2x is a great system with a very great community (gp32x.com). i've had my first edition as soon as it hit back in nov, but i've returned it shortly after because the joystick just isn't for me. it's not great for 2d games and deadzone was a bit too large.
gp32x member DaveC is selling what looks like much better joypads, though.

anyway, good system besides its joystick, and has perfect megadrive(lcd res is perfect for it! same with neogeo platform. pixel perfect rendering).
reesys DrMD is the best!

Yeah, I would buy this in a heartbeat if it had a D-pad. I don't want to play my old school games with an analog stick.

It's not an analog stick. Its a digital stick, same as on the neo geo pocket or gp32, except this one doesnt click.

The
battery issues are what's keeping me away for now. I would love to buy one, and was seconds away before discovering this page. Hope they fix it soon, or perhaps it's been fixed already and that page is outdated?

I've got a first edition unit and the only change of note is that the new units come pre-loaded with the newer firmware.

Mine is a fantastic little gadget and I'm really happy with it. I've used it for emulation, homebrew games, watching ripped dvds, reading ebooks and, of course, running my own code.

So far I'd say it has performed amazingly. I get about 3 hours out of a pair of 2500mah energizers.

It seems that Lik-Sang missed out on the deadline to get the units with "First Edition" stamped on and came up with this whole "we'll only ship it when everything works" story to cover up for having to delay a bunch of pre-orders.

I'd recommend buying from http://www.gp2x.co.uk or http://www.gp2x.de/shop/index.php

I love my GP2X, I got it a while ago and it isn't first edition. I expect it's second edition. GBAX sent me it in December, flashed with the latest firmware, so I don't know what this new 'second edition' rubbish on Lik-Sang is all about. Order from them if you like, but I'd recommend a more local retailer, such as http://www.gbax.com http://www.gp32z.com or http://shop.gp2x.de

Dang, I was really hoping to hear the 2nd edition added a rechargeable li-ion battery instead of using two AA batteries.

There is only one GP2X version available. Lick-Sang's claims are pure rubbish.

Gamepark Holding just put info on their page to clarify that every retailer (thus also Lick-Sang) got the same unit.

www.gp2x.co.kr (click english on top right)

Don't by from them - they just delayed shipping to every loyal customer and now trying to confuse everyone since they have stock.

The First Edition was full of bugs:
http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3742

Lik
Sang did the right thing not selling it. Go and Google how many people had to return the first edition. Even resellers complained about the high RMA rate, fore example Electronics Boutique tested it and decided not to stock it and one of their tech guys was speaking about 20% RMA rate!!
