Didnt Quake 1 release its source code a million years ago, I know its not the same as open source but for people looking for some cheap gaming its just as affective

Just a note for the uninitiated... just because a game is open source, does not mean it is free of charge ;)
Doom, Quake 1,2 and 3, should also be on that list now as their engines have been released under the GNU LGPL licence as well. Just because the code that the game runs on is free, doesn't mean the levels, characters, graphics and sounds are...
