Sure, we might have called Take-Two the
"ugly girl at the merger
dance" - and we still stand by that moniker - but even Ally Sheedy's character got the guy in The Breakfast
Club. If they play their cards right, Take-Two might get to slow dance with Bono and his friends Elevation
Partners. According to the New York Post yesterday, Elevation Partners (headed by
former EA honcho John Riccitiello) is considering a $1 billion acquisition of the infamous company.Would Bono, an avid peace activist who has a major stake in Elevation Partners, take issue with some of the more controversial elements of Rockstar's games? Would Riccitiello merge the company with its already-merged properties Bioware and Pandemic? $1 billion is a huge expense for a company with such bad press as of late, even if it holds some of the hottest-selling franchises in video game history (Grand Theft Auto and Civilization). Even though a major newspaper is running this story, we doubt an acquisition deal will ever come to fruition.
