Guys, calm down. This isn't the final DSlite for sure. These pics came from an FCC document & are of a DSlite prototype (w/ cheap plastic)

shame its a prototype. I've had to deal with prototype items like this before. its a great taster but its no final piece. thats what i'll be buying soon as my regular DS packs in.... saying that I was playing my vintage GB just yesterday and thats showing no signs of age. gotta love Nintendo! built to last.

Damn Keef.

The only reason the PSP hasn't gone the way of the Do Do Bird is because it's funded by Sony, period. Look at Gizmondo for example. If that were made by Sony, I'm sure it would still be around instead of it's current status.

And then we could all watch in utter amazement yet again when Keef exclaims, "Gizmondo 4 ever!!!!"

Oooh, the stylus fits on the right side -- could that mean the stylus will actually be longer, normal-sized, and USABLE?

I'm still cheesed off about this. I wanted something a little more, well, different. That's great it's lighter and smaller -- but I wanted a different "design" ala SP2, something a lot more holdable.

It still doesn't fix one of the problems with the original- the distance between the screens.

#14,
I agree. This is a definite improvement (and I will be buying it), but design-wise, it still could be smaller. There are obviously areas of blank space that could be cleaned up, to make more portable. I DO understand, that the reason it isn't smaller than what they are making it, is because of the guts inside the handheld. Maybe they should have waited a year or so until they could make the guts more compact (until technology catches up). Because the outside aesthetics of the handheld could be smaller and still offer the same gaming experience, but added portability. But I guess they can always release a third DS design in the future (like they did for the GBA). Either way, I am excited to get this baby in my hands.

I don't like that the edges are beveled so much. It would be nice if they toned that down a bit so that it matched the revolution more.

I just looked through the manual. It seems to have the same firmware, with the same pictochat. This one is probably more piracy-proof, though.

Strange, that spot where the GBA game goes is white and not shaped at all like a cartridge. This is either some sort of plastic cover over an empty slot, or a product of the prototype.

Hmmmm. let's hope they change a few things before this goes final.

In the pics it looks like the stylus is black, why can't we have a white stylus. The Top screen doesn't seem to be flush with the unit, slightly concave.

The DSLite seems to be as thin as two GBA cartridges stacked on top of each other. Both screens seem to be convex + concave and the Appli- like design makes it looks stylish.

You know why we kept asking where the power button was? Because the original version of this post didn't put up a pic of the side showing the power button. Note that all the posts wondering about the power button were written yesterday afternoon.

@17 - I thought this was fully discussed. The distance between the screens cannot change because some games have (and will continue to) use this space as real space, space that actions can occur in (such as pinball games). If this were changed, there would be a crazy-feeling lag between when an object goes in one side and comes out the other.

I just wish it could have been widescreen. For non-formatted games, they could have used black bars on the sides. Ah, wishful thinking, I suppose.
