Har har; we've covered Mac stuff many a times (trust me, I watch these things as I type on my 12" Powerbook). You might want to shake your pointer this way:

As
latest as the 4th we discussed the universal binary UT2004 and its high-speed glory. Mmm, macs.

Peace, love, and Apples, brother.

If it comes out on Gamecube, I'll buy it.

If it comes out on DS I'll buy it.

If it comes out on Mac I'll explode with joy. And then I'll buy it.

Am I the only one that was disappointed by the lack of freedom this game offered?

Originally I was attracted to this title thinking of it as a much needed update to the 'creative sandbox' game genre. Stunt Island was the first game to deliver this sort of flexibility and I was hoping that The Movies would give it a much needed graphical update.

In Stunt Island you could set up cameras (nine of them, IIRC), set up props with all kinds of scripted events, fly/drive just about any plane/vehicle from the Junebug to the Space Shuttle, and edit the hell out of the resulting (often hilarious) footage in a pretty advanced NLE setup using all nine camera's source footage...you could also add titles, dialogue (sort of) and all sorts of other neat post-production stuff. In addition to all of these cool features, there was also a *game* where you could play as a stunt man flying planes and stuff in pre-made sets and watch the resulting 'auto-edited" movie afterward.

It seems that Lionhead made their primary focus the *game* part of that equation.....which isn't an entirely bad thing, it just wasn't what I was hoping for. They did try to give you the ability to make your own movies but it's pretty limited, IMHO. It's obvious that they intended this game to be a Sims-like franchise with endless add-on packs, but I just wanted more freedom in what I could do with the *existing* assets.

However, if you weren't coming at this like I was and knew nothing of Stunt Island you'd most likely find the game extremely enjoyable as it removes most of the hard work needed to view a polished movie....

I was a little disappointed like chudgoo above initially. The Movies definitely has limits but with creative editing and a good story, you can still make your own baby. It just takes a lot of work-arounds unfortunately.

This is also why The Movies on console will only be half the game it is on PC. There are a lot of out-of-game things you pretty much need to do to make an original movie that I don't see possible on console: original title screens, backdrops, music editing, special effects, even modding. I am sure the Civs/Sims part of the game will be the same experience but hardly anyone who gets this game cares about that part.

Addendum: One good thing about a console version could be that they remove the vanishing-edited-scenes bug in the PC version. For some reason, if you cut up a scene and use more than one piece, all the other pieces other than the first one disappear. This is a real pain in the ass and makes editing take longer than it should even after you find the solution on The Movies boards. Even the game's patch couldn't fix it.
