I don't know if Nintendo can sue Yuke for this, but it sure seems like rip-offs of this nature might warrant a lawsuit.

The lawyers at Nintendo would probably have been at work already, had it not been for the fact that the whole "realistic-puppy-simulator" thing started on the PC years ago, with "Dogz". Nintendo just made them 3D and realistic and added a touchscreen. No one should be surprised by this, honestly :)

"The Dog Happy Life" is another one of those names that needs to become a band name, joining "Zombies Against Ambulances" in the ever-expanding list today. It wouldn't be the first time a band has taken its name from a game. Has anyone heard of "Rival Schools - United By Fate", which started out as a silly 3D fighter from Capcom, and then became the band "Rival Schools", whose first (and so far only) album was called "United By Fate"?

Could you feel the soft puppy fur when you touched the screen? This game can still be good, and considering it's not out yet i don't see how Nintendogs is already better.

One point though, why not make the game about pet monkeys? or a variety of 'pet-type' animals rather than the blatent rip-off of a puppy raising sim?

WOOF

@9: It was more of inspired than anything since Nintendogs improved on the basic concept and actually made a real game out of it. Nintendogs has some incredibly advanced AI which does represent a real puppy closely (I just got a new pup a while back so...easier to compare). Also including some impressive graphics (for the DS) and a good use of a touch screen the games seperate the Gigapet and Nintendogs. I do agree though that Nintendo did build upon the basic concepts of feeding and watering, but how is that fun on its own?

Also, if it were a direct rip of a Tomagatchi it Nintendogs would be a dog made using dot matrix on a 20x20 screen and only move left and right. Thats also neglecting the fact that when your Nintendgo reaches 100 caring points it hatches, 1000 it evolves, 10000, it evolves again...etc etc.

Simon,

Where did you see that this was being developed by Sony?

AND

Doesn't it take years to create a game? This game should have already been in development before Nintendogs was released.
-----------------
Adg1034,

Nope. Yuke has develop a different interface to compensate for the lack of touchscreen.

Gigapet? Jeff I hate to point out whos the stupid one, because Gigapet was not the first pet simulator. They have been around all the way back from the late 80's. I had a program on my old 486 that raised a pet. And Nintendogs and another "puppy" simulator is a RIPPOFF. It would be like Bill coming out with a game that you roll a ball of "yarn" on the ground intill it gets bigger and bigger picking up all the other "yarn" on the ground. Hey Jeff thanks for the good laughs, they were beyond repair.

This is awesome!!! Nintendo is becoming a leader once again. If the Behemoth (sony) is actually doing a puppy sim, a brain training game, instead of a graphics intensive mature titles to boost game sales, then Nintendo is obviously doing something right.

This is just so sad on so many levels.
The guy can't create an orignal game so he's ripping off Nintendo cause they created a Hit with Nintendogs. (I know others have created Pet sims before, But Nintendo was the ones who were able to turn one into a must have system seller)

I also feel bad for Sony cause they have been reduced down to haveing a blatant Rip-off of DS games on their system, In hopes that they can move more systems. Can't someone create an Orignal game for the PSP?

With out a mouse or a touch screen this game is going to suck BIG time. Anyone remeber Dogz for the GameBoy Color? Ya I'm betting its going to be as bad as that.

I'm willing to put money on it that this game won't even come close to selling as well as Nintendogs Shiba & Friends version let alone selling as well as all 3 put together.

@Simon, it doesn't take years to create a pet sim, the game most likely went into development shortly after Nintendogs was released and became a system seller.

For the record, in Nintendo's defense, all of the other "Digital Pet" things have been going on for a long time. Portable, On PC, Console what have you. Nintendo is just repackaging it for their Hardware. Is it original? No. Is Yuke copying off of them? I'd say yes. Why now? Why hot on the heels of Nintendogs? Why not cats? Why not a bird? Why not a fictional animal?

Yeah it takes "years" to develop games. Not small games that this. Think about everything that goes into making a game. Do you honestly see this taking that long to make?

#9: Nintendogs and Gigapets are simply in the same genre. Saying that Nintendogs is a rip-off of games like these as akin to saying that all platformers are rip-offs of Mario.

Setting aside the obvious "But Mario wasn't the first platformer!" arguement, "The Dog Happy Life" is an obvious Nintendogs clone.

"You people are stupid beyond repair."

I'd rather be stupid than ignorant. At least then I'd have an excuse.

They should stick to FPS to make their money.

Does the PSP even have a mic? Maybe it does, I don't know. If it doesn't, then this is really a worthless idea anyway - it's not just the touch-screen, but a huge part of Nintendogs is giving commands to your dogs through speech. Just like a real dog.

You teach your dog tricks with both the stylus and by actually speaking the word, like "sit". You call your dog to you by actually saying its name. Is that even possible on the PSP? Obviously the touch-screen stuff isn't, but what about the mic?

I think everybody is missing an important point here. I would think, if nothing else, this will really just further boost popularity for Nintendogs instead of becoming a hit on PSP.

The PSP and DS have slightly different target markets. I'd say the PSP focuses more on the serious gamers and first adopters while the DS focuses on a wider gamut that includes more women and children.

I'd also venture to guess that a dog simulator lines up more with the DS market than the PSP market. I really can't see someone interested in a dog simulator going out and buying a PSP because that is going to be the only game that is geared towards them on the system. Instead, they are going to find out that the DS has a similar game on a system that that is more targetted to their tastes.

Unless there are some serious gamers out there who want a dog simulator on their PSP, I really see this further boosting Nintendogs because every article that mentions the new game will probably compare it to Nintendogs.

What is wrong here.. this is such a ripp-Off of Nintendogs. And don't tell me Nintendogs ripped off Tamagotchi... First of all Ia m a big fan of Tamagotchi but it's a totally different because you play it on a little.. Handheld thing that's very unique and only made for it. Also Tamagotchi is NOT DOGS! It's totally different. It's just too different. Nintendogs Is excellent because it is also very unique and uses an animal. Also with Touch Screen. PSPuppys is totally obviouse... and just makes me sick if they made a cats or monkeys one then it would have been very good and just different.. but Dogs again? Noone wants to play with dogs again on there handhelds... not after what the DS came out with. Everybody is happy with nintendogs.. and we dont need another Lame ripp off for a Bad Company like Sony.

The GBA game riles me up yes, I forgot who asked that. but the GBA game looks horrendous. just as much as this. the only thing that will improve on the feel of Nintendogs is the Revolution's controller. forget a little CPU running the AI, that thing could render a park full of dogs. and you could virtually punch your dog. hmm.

Well I think they're trying to capture popularity of nintendogs, the concept seems borrowed from nintendo which nintendo from someone else and made it popular or whatever. Either game doesnt appeal to me, but if I had to choose one I'd say the touch screen and microphone seems appealing.

To get away from the ripoff accusations for a second, someone mentioned in an early post that it would be cool to see some other animal besides a dog. Personally, that sounds brilliant. Not that I dont like dogs, but, though nintendogs was cool, I would totally go for something more original than a common house pet. Why not Nintendinosaurs, or um....Nintenducks??? Ok...maybe not the best ideas either, but I'm sure there are some animals that would make great games of this type. There are thousands of kinds of animals. Why be stuck with dogs?

You all are missing a huge point. The point of these puppy raising sims is that you can pick it up, take care of your puppy for 5 to 10 minutes, then put it down.

This will never work on the PSP because of the load times!!! Nintendogs was one of DS's games geared more for pick up and play in short bursts, and the PSP really does not do that well.
