Just think of all the profanity he missed because of the "mute" button.

I sure hope he wasn't playing on my Team when he was busy taking down notes (assuming he didn't record over 30 hours worth of talking). This must explain why someone will just stop playing suddenly.

Not surprising.
On such a note, has anyone here actually ever played a game of Halo online wherein the players actually had civil interactions with eachother. Maybe even complemented eachother on good shots? I've heard that it happens, but I don't think I've played one match yet where there wasnt some angry 12-year-old kid exclaming loudly into his headset that "*insert handle of person that just killed him* is gay" followed by an incoherent string of bad "your mom" jokes and gay-bashing.

Im usually the fat 23 year old saying mean things. Luckily I got a 360, so Im much more mild on PDZ with it's superior gameplay and less cheats/losers who play it 18 hours a day/lag.

This is the reason my child will never be allowed to play videogames online. That kind of language is ridiculous. A sure sign of lesser intelligence.

Pince: Although, I'll admit it is rare, there actually are some decent people on XBL. But, unfortunately, those people don't have headsets.

BTW the intro about that "one word" and its many uses is taken directly from a flash animation on eBaum's World. Funny stuff. I recommend it if you haven't seen it and aren't too offended by words that start with "F".

I feel sorry for you console guys. :)
I'm an incredibly biased source but I think the PC audience is more mature and less prone to invasion by 12 year olds.
Which is a shame for console people to have to deal with so many immature children etc. I feel sorry for you folks... Good luck et all.

despite the ESRB and the rating industry who belives sewaring is for people over 18, the truth is, everyone swears, especially kids. There is not a single game you can go into and not hear swear words. Swear words are simply a way of expressing ones unplesent feelings towards a situation. I mean, if Im playing MArble Blast Ultra online and I steal the blue gem 1 second before the last guy, he says "fuck". Also, if I kill a guy in perfect dark, when he had set up is position so secure and he slipped up for a second which gave me a kill, he would also say 'fuck'. I do the same as well. For some people, its not the f-word, but another word.

If you cant comprehend with swearing (in games or in real life), you best take your life now because everyone on earth does it. The only reason swearing is so taboo in the gaming and movie world for movies with lower ratings is because of all the soccer moms out there who will yell sue sue sue. A family movie like Ice Age would never have the f-word in it, but if it did, its not like it would be anything new to the 6 and 7 year olds in the audiance. They have all heard the word before. The reason its not in the movie tho is because or the rating systems which protect the game makers.

Once you take your gaming online, the power is in the hand of the idividual, not the big companies, and the individual does not have to worry about soccer moms coming and suing him. Therefore, he says what he wants to say.

I myself swear alot online when I die after being so close to something etc. I dont swear in an agressive way towards anyone, I just sorta say it lightfully like any person would when their down on their luck.

Everyone must express theirselves when they get upset or killed, etc. The only way to do this is to swear or break something around you. Most people dont want to break stuff around them. Swearing is needed to relieve yourself of that tension. Saying stuff like "Gee golly darn, I should of killed that guy", just doesent have the same effect.

There are some people on live who swear like 7 times in one sentance like when their describing something, which is kinda silly. But to play in any online game and not expect swearing is just dumb.

I've had some good experiences on XBL. Mostly because of networking through friends of friends who are all around my age(23). Sure an occasional swear word comes through but it's occasional. They're not doing it to sound tough or cool like the pre-teens who use them so liberally. If I were a parent and heard my kid talking like that they'd eat soap for dinner. No kidding. Parents need to police their children so we don't have to listen to them.

#4, yes, all the time. But then I don't play a whole lot of matchmaking. I do play a lot of custom games with my Seasoned Gamer buddies though.

Online gaming communities of adult gamers are the best way to experience XBox Live par none. I suggest all of you who don't belong to one, go and find yourself one that you fit in. There's plenty of them around, from geezer gamers to 2old2play and seasoned gamers.

SG for life!

11. They do. But really - what do you expect from FPS multiplayer gaming on a mass market console?

Sorry Mike, but it can't be everyone on on earth swearing. I don't. It isn't necessary when you lose. It is only a game, and meant to be fun. That's why I try to keep my Live gaming to my friends group, who mainly sit in the 25-30 age group, and much more likely to hear laughter and congratualtions than you will disparaging remarks pertaining to either your sexuality or your mother.

I wonder what level this guy was when playing. I'm at a level (34) that is above those 12 year olds and immature idiots. I hardly ever meet people like that. However, I'm more likely to meet modders at my level, but it doesn't happen often enough to ruin the experience.

Um... interesting story.

But just for the record re: your graphic.

It's "pwn" not "pown." In the MMO world, "pown" would be just downright silly.

Playing "Battlefield II MC" on Xbox Live is surprisingly free of cussing and such. Or maybe I just get lucky and find people who just want to have fun.

I somehow feel he was playing games with low ranked players or unranked games which are the worst. At the low levels in Halo 2 it is populated with kids & the frustrated players who can not gain levels. The foul language at those levels are pretty bad and I can not get out of those lower levels fast enough. If he were to play with people over level 20 he would see a dramatic decline in cursing compared to the lower ranked players. Smack talk still goes on, but we are talking about a competitive game here.

That
'F' word list is really god damned old. It either came from monty python, or they adapted it from elsewhere.

And eBaum's world steals everything. So your post is doubly ironic.

Sure, there's a lot of swearing on Halo 2. I think that there are really two different issues here, though. On one hand there are the expletives that one naturally shouts after getting stuck by a grenade or plasma sworded for the umpteenth time. I don't really have a problem with that.

On the other hand, there is all the racist and homophobic crap that goes on. It is disheartening how pervasive it all is.

I was playing mainly ranked games, at level 24 in Team Slayer and 18 in Team Snipers. Occasionaly I would play Team Action Sack or Multi Team which are unranked. I don't mind the cursing, I curse myself, I just recorded it because I was curious about the amount which I thought would be much higher.

I think nothing is funnier than getting my ass handed to me. So yea I give compliments where they are due, but you get no respect from me by yelling "GET SOME" after a blast from a rocket launcher.
But I have to admit that I do my share of swearing. I dont usually drop the f bomb but after a head shot you might hear Dam- over your headset just before I die. nothing personal.

I must say that Xbox live is awesome, and it's pretty much the only reason I use my Xbox so much. However, the thing I hate the most is not the swearing as much as people talking so much smack. My friends and all go online to play, just to have fun, and because when you have only three people playing against each other gets old. So we go online and there are people who are really good but all they do is talk smack about you, and throw racial slurs around. It's just really annoying because it's just a video game and it's supposed to be fun but people get to serious about it. I know I swear but not at other people, it is just a reflex sometimes.

Your observations, if they are in regards to my early post, are very true. I don't own an Xbox or a copy of Halo, I just play alot with friends. Still, I dont have my own profile so I usually just use someone else's, and yeah, we usually play unranked games. I would assume that there is a difference with much more serious players, but it is still sad that this is the sort of environment many will end up playing in.

Also, its not the swearing itself that gets to most people I think, it is just the general lack of respect for other human beings. some amusing smack talk is ok 1) if you can back it up and 2) as long as it is in the spirit of the game and isnt borderline harassment. The thing that is unsettling is the rampant sexual and racial slurs and the personal insults that some people feel the need to employ.

The suggestions are appreciated, but, admittedly, I am a more casual player of Halo so I am likely doomed to encounter my fare share of loudmouthed brats with a penchant for gay-bashing and racism.

Hey thanks for posting the websites aimed at older gamers. I agree it is very frustrating playing with these kids who must log about 8 to 10 hours a day to get as good as they are. It is always nice to play with people at your skill level or just a bit better.

I have dropped a few swear words over my years on LIVE, and have even made a couple of rude comments but it is inside a group of friends who play pretty regularly together. They are not ment to be mean or ill spirted just two friends joking with each other.

I wish LIVE would let you do a little more filtering of the kinds of people you play with. From what I understand the new LIVE360 does do that and you can actually block people from getting into a game with you.

I will look forward to playing with some of you geezer gamers and 2 old 2 play folks in the coming months.
