Advent Children gets Europe release date: April 24th [Update 1]
Update: According to
this link, Square Enix is denying ever giving a firm European
release date, so chalk this up as a rumor. [Thanks, Probot]Better late than never, right? Square Enix has finally given a firm European release date for its latest FFVII-spinoff, Advent Children. This feature-length DVD, with stunning visuals (although somewhat lacking, I feel, in the story department), will officially land on European soil April 24th.
While Mandy Moore may have given up her role as Aerith (replaced by Mena Suvari) in Kingdom Hearts II, it appears she does have a role in the English voice work for Advent Children. Jessica Alba and Steve Burton (who voices Cloud in the Kingdom Hearts games) will also lend their voices to the English dub (whether or not the CG will synchronize with the English voicing is currently unknown).
Unfortunately, no word yet on the US release date, except to say "later this year."
[Thanks to everyone who tipped us!]
[Update: Took a course in Geography; sorry for the screw-up.]

YES!!!!!
It's about time to! I can't wait for this, I heard it's costing 19.99 so it better have a bouns disc with the Last Order film included.
Europe before the Us, I've never been so happy or maybe they'll announce that US will get it a month earlier. (They'd better not) April is going to be a very expensive month for me. Tomb Raider Legend - 29.00, Advent Children - 19.99. Dragon Quest Journey of the Cursed King - 29.99 and several others.
Note to self - Need Money.

You said in the beginning of the article it comes out in the US on the 24, yet at the end of the article you say there is no firm release date in the states. Just pointing out that you should change it

Is there an import version that has English subtitles? I don't care for the fancy-English dub - typically the Japanese voice-acting is better than the US - even if you can't understand it.
And remember - the original characters didn't have voices at all!

This site is reporting that Sony denies ever giving Advent Children a release date in Europe. They mention a German site called Gamestar, but don't offer a link to the article.
Just a heads up that this may be a false alarm.

Here's the link to the German Site. A babelfish translation is pretty readable. The site cites GamePro and says Sony "referred the alleged publication in the realm of the fable."

rpgamer is wrong.
Columbiatristar has the movie on its official Italian site. The 1 disc edition will be out at the end of April while the 2 discs deluxe one is going to be availabe near the end of may (23/05).
I can't give you a direct like because everything is in flash, but go here:

and insert final fantasy in the search box ("cerca" in Italian) in the upper right corner :)

That is a pretty convincing source, but I can't help but think back to sometime last year when Sony's North American site had a load of games listed for release and they weren't released on those dates (one of which was the UMD version of Advent Children), and a few PSP games that weren't even announced for North America (Tales of Eternia Online). So like many retail sites, that date could be just a projection. It doesn't help matters much that nary a press release can be found regarding the Euro announcement and that Eurogamer doesn't like to cite its sources.
Probot @ Feb 10th 2006 9:10PM
Technically they aren't wrong since the German site they linked to did say Sony denied announcing a release date. The date is listed on the site you linked, but unlike most sites are reporting, there has been no official announcement yet.
And there seem to be four versions listed. 1 disc version and UMD version coming in April, and a 2 disc version coming in May, and a "Versione Noleggio" also coming in May. I don't know Itailian, and I don't know much about Itailian movie releases, so could someone clarify what that is?
I agree with Murdoc. There is still no official announcement. Until we get something concrete, Europe is as much out of luck as North America. (Unless they just download it...)

I fit was to be released in April in Europe, then it would be out in the states either at the same time, or earlier.
As for the importing of a Japanese version with english subtitles, there are only HK bootlegs. They can be alright, but the subtitles on the one my friend bought went off screen and it had no extra features. Althought if you go to ANIMEniacs.com you can find a 2 Disc bootleg with supposedly better subtitles and a bunch of extras for like $16.
I would wait for the english version though, it should have Japanese as a selectable language, like most other foriegn films.

"As for the importing of a Japanese version with english subtitles, there are only HK bootlegs."
- Wrong, high quality fansubbed versions have been out for quite a while, easily exceeding HK bootlegs.
"Althought if you go to ANIMEniacs.com you can find a 2 Disc bootleg with supposedly better subtitles and a bunch of extras for like $16."
- If you paid for a bootlegged version of this, you got ripped off. There are *plenty* of places where you can find very high-quality versions of FF:AC for *free* and *quite* easily.
Please don't promote that site when you know it's ripping people off.

"noleggio" means rent, so the version are 2 plus the one on UMD. And as for Sony not announcing FFAC, if I'm not wrong they did it for resellers but I'll have to check this out
