IGN has netted an interview with David
Perkinson of LucasArts to discuss--brace yourself--LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. If you loved the
first game, you may be equally enthralled by the sequel. Key highlights from the interview include:
- The game is set in the world of the Original Trilogy (Episodes IV-VI). For those of you who don't know about the first 3 Star Wars films, shame on you.
- Over 50 new characters, plus the ability to import characters from the original LEGO Star Wars, bringing the total to just over 100 choices.
- Character creation: mix-and-match LEGO body parts from all of your unlocked characters.
- 2-player Co-Op mode, no online multiplayer, and DS players can enjoy 4-player Co-Op as well as a single-cart versus mode.
- Completely reworked vehicle system; non-droids can now enter and exit any vehicle they see at any time, and are free to roam about: "If you want to do the trench run in the Millennium Falcon, or even on a landspeeder, you now can." Sweet.
- Chewbacca can now rip off LEGO arms as a melee attack. Super Sweet.
[Thanks, Princess Zelda]

Also, no 4 player for 'Cube and Xbox? Boo!
And of course there's no 360 version. Why would there be? Lego are simple geometic solids, you don't need fancy renderers to push such easy geometry!

Now, to get number two for XBox or Gamecube? :P I'm guessing I'll have a LONG time to decide.

Buy it!
My first though while playing this game was "This is way too much fun!" There's too many things I love about this game to list them for you. The game is different from anything I've played before. The first game is $30 in most stores. I'm really looking forward to playing Lego Star Wars II.

I find it odd that new games are being announced today and they are being announced for xbox only. What the hell was the point of me buying my 360 if your gonna make the games for the old system.

Just b/c a new console has been released doesn't mean games are not produced anymore for the previous model (in this case the Xbox.) When a new system is released, games are still made for the current systems until the next-gen machines are profitable for 3rd party companies. Sony has done this, Sega has done this, Nintendo has done this...hell Atari even did it.
Plus I don't that you guys actually realize how EXPENSIVE it is to develop Xbox 360 (and soon to be released PS3 games.)

I'll try to answer some of your questions.
Why isn't there a 360 version? The answer is in the article from IGN link above, read the article.
As to a patch for the 360, It's a lot more complicated then a simple patch. Major Nelson (Xbox Live's Larry Hryb) did an interview on his blogcast/podcast with Backwards Compatability Marketing Manager at Microsoft he explains how backwards compatabilty works and gives an email address for requests. It's show number #154, a very interesting interview.
Now your last question about new games coming out of original Xbox. There's more people in the world who have the original xbox then the 360, right now. It makes since to release the game to a widest audience as possible. I think I remember hearing from Major Nelson that the original xbox will have more games coming out for it this year then any other year previous.

Making me want to play the original again, too.

It's isn't on this news update, but they also said that all characters will be able to manipulate LEGO blocks to form handy objects, which is a curse and a blessing, because it neutralizes some of the multi-character puzzles hat made the first game's story mode fun.
Still, I'm psyched for the game, can't wait to get my hands on more LEGO Star Wars goodness >_> ...
