F.E.A.R. coming to the Xbox 360?
According to
the rumor section of the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM), F.E.A.R. may be headed to the Xbox
360 in 2006. Currently a PC only title, the game shares some technology with Condemned Criminal Origins, which
could facilitate a port of the game to the console. The rumor appears to be based on the (reasonable) logic that if the technology is already in place on the Xbox 360 -- via Condemned -- surely Monolith won't hesitate in porting their flagship FPS to the console. Apparently we should expect an announcement shortly, so stay tuned for more.

I'm one who doesn't play computer games so having F.E.A.R. available for the Xbox 360 would be awesome for me. I've heard great things about the game and would love to try it out.

I liked FEAR for the PC.
This could only mean a good thing for the 360. Now if only they'd add more bonuses instead of doing a plain vanilla copy of the game that would be really good. :)

When news hit that Condemned was going to the PC, I figured eventually we might get word of F.E.A.R. coming to 360 (same developer, Monolith, and I believe they use the same engine as well). I too would like to see some new content for the 360 version, but I'm not expecting a whole lot from a port.
hardwood2001 @ Feb 11th 2006 9:59AM
this is old news to oxm people, because they said this about 4 months ago! they said the samething about quake wars about 2 months ago! old old old old news!!!

Sweet!

That's cool. Not everyone is a PC gamer and would still like to play the amazing games the PC has. The only gripe I would have with that is the graphics hit. The PC is higher res than a high def TV, and can run more eye candy. So it is impossible for them to make it look AS good. But the 360 is still capable of decent graphics.
kilo113 @ Feb 11th 2006 11:26AM
say what?
majority of people that play FEAR run at 1024x768 resolution, less than 1280x720(360), since this game is too demanding on pc gpus.
heck, even the new x1900s can't run this game at 1600x1200(standard that is higher) smoothly.
also higher resolution doesn't mean more eye candy in the way of effects and the like! anyway,
the 360 version will probably run smooth at 720p with "settings on high" which is something most pc gamers can't do as this game is too much on gpus at the moment.
i've been hoping for a port to a 360 since my pc's 6600gt has a hard tiem with this game even at 800x600..ouch. i know it's a weak card, but it wasn't last year!

PS fanboy with the white stuff still on his chin said, "No, I wouldn't believe this, I don't think MS's console would be getting a pc handmedown FPS....
I suppose it's a good thing as we all know from past instances that MS consoles have had a shortage of FPS's. hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahhah
Next thing you know, they'll start getting Tom Clancy sequels on their machine."
Its funny when those Tom Clancy games came out on the PS2 your type all said "see we can play splinter cell too." Damn fanboy. You must be a PS fanboy to get stars on this site,
Now on topic, The game looks nice and plays well "reported" so It would make a nice addition to any next gen system. Just like Half life 2 made a fine addition to the first Xbox.

kilo113, i have an athlon 3000+ and an x800xl. i have my computer hooked up to my 65" widescreen sony. i play fear at 1776x1000 (interlaced), and have just about every setting on high and max with the exception of the settings that will give me a huge performance hit like soft shadows (also no AA). runs mostly fine on my comp (couple of hiccups in certain areas) and looks great.
Tony @ Feb 11th 2006 2:05PM
Not a bad game per se, but I feel it was incredibly over-rated... at least as a single player title. How that games cliched ideas were remotely scary, I have no idea... and it's sure not helped by some really dull areas.
The firefights were damn cool though, regardless of how few enemy types there were. The game really shined in that regard.
Shorty @ Feb 11th 2006 2:35PM
Loved the game on the PC. It'll be interesting to see how well it translates onto the 360. Definetly going straight on my must buy list.
Iggy @ Feb 11th 2006 2:35PM
Tomato, Good for you?
kilo113 @ Feb 11th 2006 3:08PM
yeah, i guess i was making it seem too hardware taxing , tomato..still very demanding, though.
i have an a64 3500(s939)+ and 6600gt, and even at 800x600 i experience a lot of hiccups. i know your card is much better than mine, but how will yours run at 1280x720 non-interlace and max settings?
in any case, this port sounds like good news for people without good pc hardware or non pc gamers.
tomato @ Feb 11th 2006 3:50PM
kilo113, i used to run at 1280x1024 with 2x AA 8x AF and the other settings the same. it ran a little slower than what how im running it now. Iggy, my point was that FEAR is not some ungodly game with ungodly specs. the specs are pretty high, but its not like you need the most expensive top of the line gear to have a great experience. btw, i agree that the game was overrated. it was pretty satisfying after getting through a firefight, but wasnt as "fun" as quake 4 for me.
dsub @ Feb 11th 2006 3:54PM
"The PC is higher res than a high def TV, and can run more eye candy. So it is impossible for them to make it look AS good. But the 360 is still capable of decent graphics."
Actually, I don't think there would be a graphical hit at all. In all reality, most decent PC's would be able to run FEAR at 1280x960 or 1600x1200 resolution. HD resolutions are 1280x720 for 720p and a stunning 1920x1080 for 1080i. Not really a hit resolution wise, and I think the 360 hardware will be more than capable of handling all the soft shadows and textures. I think this game would look just as good...if not better on a 360 is ported well.
Eric @ Feb 11th 2006 4:26PM
You guys the hiccups in the game are from RAM issues, you need at at least 1.25gb to run everything on high, even at that you will get a few hiccups, 2GB is key for FEAR is you want to have everything on high with no interruptions.
thomas_h @ Feb 11th 2006 5:20PM
funny, i actually mailed them prior to FEARs release on pc, begging them to release it on 360 too since i dont have a pc strong enough to run FEAR.
Mike McLin @ Feb 11th 2006 6:12PM
Yay, this is where we can brag about our expensive computers. Well, I ran FEAR with my 7800GTX at a 1280x720 resolution (the same resolution that the Xbox version would have). The game looked great, and I had absolutely NO hiccups whatsoever. I had all of the important stuff turned up to the max, and lowered a few other settings (don't remember exactly). Anyways, the game looked good. The game does get VERY repetitive, it seems like there are only a handful of different enemies. This game could definetly benefit from some great Xbox Live support, like an online co-op mode. That woud've been nice. Unfortunately, I don't see my self buying the game. I think many people would agree, if you played it once, there is no need to play it again. But, if you have never tried it out, then I would definetly recommend it (as long as the port is smoother than the Xbox 360 Quake 4 port).
refinedsugar @ Feb 11th 2006 6:30PM
Nothing but good news in my eyes. I hope it pans out and the 360 gets Fear.
drcolossus @ Feb 12th 2006 2:47AM
I don't understand the rumble around this game! Sure the graphics and enemy AI is nice but storyline, characters and especially the ending are a complete let down! I'd prefer playing Monolith's NOLF 1 & 2 again before I would play FEAR one time more.
plamp @ Feb 12th 2006 10:39AM
drc, completely agree with you on the NOLF's. Probably the most entertaining FPS games I've played. Where's NOLF3?
MMORPG @ Feb 13th 2006 4:03AM
Yes, this is all find and good, but when will we see an expansion pack for this game? ^_^
